Naismith's poor start

Recommended Posts

Had a dodgy preseason and hasn't been up to speed in the league or CL either.

What do we attribute this to, for our player of the season last year?

My theory is he played most last year as a right winger with freedom to burst into the box. This season he seems to be playing a striker who comes deep into midfield half the time. I don't know if this new position suits him like last year's seemed to.

Thoughts?

This one is easy for me, its the position he is in. We've always seen the best of him on the right hand side whether than be on the wing in a 4-4-2 or front right in a 4-3-3.

Ive never been his biggest fan, thinks he just lacks good bit of cutting edge and end product.

Id be giving Healy a run out next to Jelavic on Saturday and moving Naismith back out right although Ortiz is worth considering there.

Few reasons:

1. Just having a bad bit of form - c'est la vie.

2. Defensive nature of rest of team and too many long balls as a result.

3. Developing understanding with other players ; Oritz is new while Naismith hasn't really played up top with Jelavic before.

He's just having a nightmare should have scored 4 or 5 going by his standard from last season don't think it has anything to do with where he is playing or how the team are playing just can't get the ball in the net he will come good he's to good not too but please hurry up naisy

Guest Dutchy

Well I think he's an important player for us and it's true that he's not playing in his best position. He's always better sitting in behind the strikers.

But so far, he's our top scorer and he's been in the right positions, he's just not managed to add to his tally so far.

I doubt all our troubles are because of him, nor Ally the new manager.

If I want to complain about anyone, that would be Edu. He's a waste of space and as someone on here pointed out, he's going backwards, not improving.

As has been said, he's not playing in his best position but that doesn't account for his poor touch. He has been getting in the correct positions, as Dutchy says, and his effort has been fine. He just needs more games.

His positioning is so good that he is vital to our team doing well and the fact that he can't get the ball to do what he wants has been a major reason for our poor results so far.

He just needs a few more games (hopefully) and he'll be back to last season's form.

Ahem ... I for one can't see that much wrong in him these days. Gets up and down the park at good pace, scored against Hearts and was there on Tuesday too. Just a touch out of luck ... after half a handful of games. No concern whatsoever.

He's played 2 games, scored 1 goal and missed a couple of chances. That's decent enough.

At least he's in the right place to have a shot at goal.

Exactly he's been far from the worst player on show for us. You don't become a bad player overnight and I'm sure once played in the correct position he'll be back to his best for us.

Strikers are susceptible to a bit of luck and Naismith is no different. He could be picked as centre half and it wouldn't make a difference to his misses. His selected position is irrelevant to the chances he had - and he had several.
