Birmingham Post re Cuellar

Sounds like evil agent work where they try it on for every last penny they can squeeze. It's why there is so much money disappearing from the game as most reasonable people would not do that kind of dealing themselves. It's like trying to haggle in a hard nose every time you go into a shop. It often works but most people wouldn't have the cheek or motivation to do it.

Agreed. I despise agents, but they are needed and i do realise there will be one or two good ones, maybe

I'll be raging if this falls through at the final hurdle, since there were quotes from Carlos and Ally M which give us genuine grounds for optimism. If there was never any chance of us meeting his wages then it should have been stated from the outset. I cannot believe that Gordon Smith or whoever at RFC has had no idea of what sort of wage demands CC was asking. If no, then time should not have been wasted like this.

Gordon Smith is an ex-agent and appeared to be a good one by all accounts, though I don't think he was involved in the crazy money multi deals that were going on with the big European clubs.

Cuellar's present injury may be why other teams are not showing any interest in him and I find it strange that Ally is attempting to push a decision through on this one as he will not be playing right away. He's just started running is what I'd read?

Why would he want / expect a sweetener from Villa? I doubt they are that desperate to sell him ...

Common day footballer wants a pay off for not demanding to move. Jelavic was in a similar position and that went on for a few days and I think he eventually waived money. Kevin Thomson was another with a pay off which I believe we gave him.

Agents push for every last penny and I am not keen on them myself either.

I think the reason for the deadline is to give us time to find someone else if he says no. We have a finite and limited budget and the CB position is a top priority. We can't wait on him then lose the chance of getting someone else if he eventually says no.
