Rangers Supporters Assembly Submission To Justice Committee

Recommended Posts

Equality Network and Church of Scotland discussion finished. Reps from the SPL, SFA, Rangers and Celtic to follow.

David Martin (Head of Security) will be representing Rangers. Not sure if all four football guys will submit together or separately.

David Martin doesn't seem to know his own fans via the Assembly have made a submission to the Justice Committee.

An opportunity for the club to back up the viewpoints of the support missed. Disappointing.

Yes agree.

I actually also found Frank Mulholland pretty vague in all of his answers. When asked a whether someone could get arrested for singing GSTQ he answered i can't answer that as it is a Hypothetical question but then goes on and gives a hypothetical answer of a Rangers supporter running across the pitch to the Celtic fans and singing it, it may be an offence. Surely that is already an offence covered by the current laws. It would seem to me the whole bill is geared up to leave a stigma on a persons criminal record of being a football bigot rather than have a breach of the peace offence on it which would be deemed to be of lesser value.

When asked if other examples other than sectarian singing could be added to the bill he then said I will need time to study that fact and will give the committee a written statement. Surely it is he that is trying to push the bill through and should have already have studied all the different scenario's

I also believe he wouldn't give an answer to the question if anyone in a closed group where all are like minded could be arrested. Again he answered I will need to think about it and will give a written report.

I also loved the convener's reaction to his answer on how you could be arrested on the journey to a football game if you are not intending to go to the game. She looked quizzed and said something like it has been a long day.:D

If you can imagine all the patients in a lunatic asylum staging a play about a parliament it wouldn't be a far cry from that madhouse in Holyrood and the bunch of clowns in it trying to legislate Scottish Laws.

Agree mate keystone cops springs to mind. This could have been a genuine time to sit down and have an adult discussion about the division between the two sides but no we get this, the only thing worse than no government is bad government and this is bad government at it's worst the rest of the world must be looking on and shaking it's head in disbelief. The greatest wee country in the world you must be having a laugh.

That is a very good contribution and it deals with the problem sucintly. Seems like there's more thought went into that than the bill itself. Which is indeed the problem with this bill, it's being hurried through even though everyone concerned does not want it to be and demanding more discussion. As it's already been pointed out by a top ploiceman, or ex-policeman, there's already laws currently available to deal with these offences. There is absolutely no reason to hurry it as offenders can be 'nicked' as the law stands at the moment.

It was also claimed that the police will not be rushing into masses of supporters because of this bill, just as they don't do so now.

I've only read half of it as I'm about to make a phone call, but I get the message. I only hope our politicians get it.!!!
