Qualifying for WC's back then was easy....a bit like sellik winning big ears....Scotland had a lot of players playing in England and with the top teams, changed days indeed....guys like Adam and Fletcher and the rest would NEVER had reached the squad back then.

Agree. Was 8 then first world cup I saw Argentina with all the tic a tat from the stands sat in front of the tv wide eyed.

The days when England struggled to qualify and we went 5 in a row we have got worse but all the smaller nations got a hell of a lot better imo.

With some of the players we have had we probably underachieved by not getting past a group stage at a tournament but no way would we have been world beaters.

Mid to late 90s we once again had a good squad which probably wasnt appreciated at the time. Craig Brown got some good results but I still feel if we had a better manager than Broon we would have done better. We had a cracking midfield of Hutchison, Lambert, McAllister, Burley, Collins, B Ferguson, McCann yet Broon used to play Billy McKinlay and Eoin Jess.

Even in defence David Robertson is probably the most undercapped player we've had. He should have had the LB role to himself for almost 10 years, yet Tosh McKinlay was preferred.
