Next season's captain

Recommended Posts

Assuming that it won't be Weir again are we? :)

Well, if it's not Weir I'll be expecting it to be given to Jig, but he wouldn't be my own choice. Personally, I think Davis playing at his best really leads by example and I think giving him the armband will force him to do that more often which is exactly what we need. I think Davis has the respect needed and the ability needed to take that armband and better himself as well as lead us to 4IAR. He's more dignified than Jig or Naismith as well with the way he conducts himself, so for me it would be Davis 1st choice and McGregor 2nd choice.

I think Naisy would make a great Captain and would be well up for the job too

I think he would needs to stop moaning as much. Might not be for him just yet probable that McCulloch will get it if Weir isn't back.

For me i'm not sure if Davis is a good choice. Not vocal enough and still needs to concentrate on his own consistancy rather than anything else. Jig's leadership quality's is about all he really brings. I think Mcgregor has the right attributes but i'm also not so keen on a Keeper being a captain. So doesn't really leave us with a great deal. Ally needs to address this it seems.

Does our captain need to be all that vocal though? Would it not be good enough to have a captain who leads by example and focusses on playing the game to the best of his ability which then rubs off on others? For me that's what Davie Weir's done because he's rarely been overly vocal except when there's a dodgy decision that leads to arguments etc. Having said that, Davie Weir isn't to be messed with either, so perhaps the closest we have to him is McGregor, but I'm not keen on the responsibility of being captain going to McGregor, mainly because he needs to concentrate fully on his job as keeper.

Weir is an extremely experienced player and there for perhaps doesn't have to be seen to shout etc. Anyway, players are either leaders or they aren't. I don't think Davis is but i could be wrong??

Yes, a captain should be vocal and be seen to do so because some players need that extra push on the pitch. The captain is the boss of the team on the field and there always has to be a boss.

What i'm saying about Davis is that he's struggled for any real large amount of consistsancy over a period of time. So the added responsibility of being captain would only distract him more from something he's yet to achieve.
