bluebear54 0
Looking back on the past three years, I've had a wonderful time starting off as the underdog. It's a long time since we were odds on. I'd much prefer to have no hope then do it one more time. And yes - I've got my reservations. As I had the last three seasons. I've got my doubts about Ally, but I had doubts last season - for other obvious reasons. But moments like the Killie game make it so sweet.
craig 5,199
The one thing that encourages me about Ally is that the targets he seem to have all, mostly, seem to have a reasonably high quality about them. Getting Cuellar to come back would be a massive boost to both club and fans. Trying to get Bartley back is a good sign and, perhaps strangely, the one thing he has done which impresses me is not a target he has but someone he let go..... not trying to get Diouf back, for me, was a good piece of business and shows, to an extent, that he has a different mindset to WS. Time will tell but I have high hopes for McCoist. That wee scrote Lennon has done a decent enough job at the piggery, McCoist has a far better education in football than Lennon and was a better player too. As gisa says, we need to give him a couple of seasons to truly get his own, settled team - he deserves that at least.
Gribz 966
Was about to say what Craig said. I like what Ally has been doing so far with regards to transfers. I did fear he would bring in a chunk of SPL players but he seems to be setting his sights as high as realistically possible. Going for the likes of Bartley, Weiss and Cuellar is sensible...all are quality players and they all know what its like to play for Rangers so should settle straight away thus making us hit the ground running from the off. I wont deny if we had a more attractive name id feel more confident, or more so if we had a experienced No.2 like Wilkins. Ally is a rookie manager yet he shouldnt be. Looking at other managers from his playing days....for EG Mcleish / Strachan...they have been managers for years.
chilledbear 16
Was it last year or the year before, Ally was in the paper saying the way forward for Rangers, was buying young and selling on at a profit, perhaps someone remembers the piece. This could be reason for the South American trip. I must say I enjoy the Scots/Ulster makeup of the team, sprinkled with guys who are genuine Supporters, it has given us a spirit which has brought perhaps unexpected success over the last three years. I just don't know what to expect next season, a new manager usually means a settling in period, hopefully with the bulk of the players staying on, we will escape this. If we do not have 4 in a row at the end of the season, how will the fans react to AMcC, I hope he can be given time to put his stamp on the team. This may depend on the nature of our new owner, but then Ally probably knows this more than anybody.
Zappa 0
what ever happens we have to give him time to get it together. two seasons minimum. we dont want to do a mowbray like the mhanks did A lot of Rangers fans didn't even give Walter Smith a season and a half after he came back before they started calling for him to be sacked and he was a man with a history of bringing success to Rangers. Walter also took over a team with more problems than the one Ally's taking over, but losing the UEFA Cup final and the league in 07/08 had people tearing their hair out with fury and drawing their daggers. We better not even talk about the reactions after the Kaunas defeat. Hopefully things are different for Ally and he's allowed plenty of time before the long knives appear. Personally, I'm quite confident that Ally is going to turn out to be a great manager for us and win silverware, but while my expectations are very high, I'll also be prepared for the worst initially and won't be calling for his head if we fail miserably in Europe and get put out of a domestic cup early doors. He's going to need everyone behind him all the way next season if we're to win 4IAR. It won't be easy and I just hope he can handle the pressure as professionally as Walter did when things don't go as well as hoped because the media will be out to get him and some of the fans will turn on him quickly too.
Danny 0
If things go badly for McCoist, will he be afforded leeway or will it spell the end as it did for PLG? Personally I am excited by the new era, excited by all the potential new signings and the new ownership. Plus continued participation in the CL (hopefully). By the end I trusted Walter and his judgement implicitly, so even if I disagreed with a selection, I always bowed to his superior knowledge. Ally doesn't have that luxury, and if he produces questionable teams, we have no reason to trust his judgement yet. End of the day, he is the manager, and I assume we will all back him completely. I just hope it goes as well as the early promise suggests.
calscot 0
Many so-called fans were still demanding Walter be sacked while top of the table and in three cups LAST season. The fact he won 8 trophies and reached a UEFA cup final in four years matters not a jot to them. You quickly realise that nothing in the real world will please them. That shows that McCoist has to forget about the opinions of the fans completely and just concentrate on getting results. He has to aim to compete to the very end of domestic competitions while qualifying for the CL and then go for at least the Europa cup safety-net. Four in a row is an incredibly rare occurrence in any league and when you consider we should really be going for five when you factor in the end of season cheating four years ago, it’s a huge task to keep on coming top. We’ll have to lose the league sometime whether it is after 3, 4 or 5 in a row, and we need to cope with it with dignity – especially if we compete till the last couple of games. I think McCoist has learned a lot from Walter - he’s also nobody’s fool, was a very intelligent player, and will have ideas of his own. I think he’ll take on board the defensive elements of the last few years but I can see him going for a slightly more attacking game – more like we played in the run in. However, I hope he stays pragmatic and defends in numbers when needed. We have to remember he’s starting older than many managers with a lot more experience as an assistant at a top club with international experience too. He’s not that wet behind the ears and one thing we’ve learned is that he’s no more of a gamble than established managers including some of the most highly regarded in Europe. We can only suck it and see.
chilledbear 16
I think the ones demanding Walters head were mainly on the internet, please correct me if I am wrong [as if you wouldn't anyway]. I think it would take a lot, before Ibrox turned on Super Ally.
