MADJID BOUGHERRA DENIED TRYING TO ENGINEER RANGERS EXIT

Madjid Bougherra has denied invoking the controversial Webster Ruling to get out of Ibrox

Monday June 6,2011

RANGERS star Madjid Bougherra has denied invoking the controversial Webster Ruling to get out of Ibrox.

The Algerian blasted reports that he has sent a letter to Rangers looking to buy out the remaining year of his contract, like Andy Webster did when he left Hearts in 2006.

Bougherra, who is wanted by Turkish sides Galatasaray and Kayserispor, has turned down the offer of a contract extension at Ibrox.

The 28-year-old said: “These stories are just not true. I know nothing about them and I have no idea where they have come from.

“I can assure everybody at Rangers and the fans that this is simply not the case.

“I have not sent a letter to the club telling them I plan to buy out the remaining year of my contract.

“I wouldn’t do that to Rangers because I owe the club so much.

“I am still a Rangers player. I still have one year left on my contract and as it stands I will be back after the summer for pre-season.

“If I do leave then it will be because Rangers have accepted an offer for me.”

Ibrox boss Ally McCoist, who is currently on a spying trip in South America, already has a list of defensive targets including Arsenal’s Kyle Bartley and Groningen’s Andreas Granqvist.

Brazilian defender Emilson Cribari now looks an unlikely option.

Somebody else in the thread mentioned that this journalist had spoken to Bougherra and they were right.

The Daily Mail is still running with the Bougherra thing, however they are both in agreement with the Brazilian guy not coming and mentioning Granqvist. Hopefully it works out with Granqvist negotiating with a former team mate in Huistra.

MADJID BOUGHERRA has opened his heart on his transfer agony - and insisted he doesn't want to become an Ibrox outcast.

The stopper IS ready to quit Rangers this summer but claims he'll only go if boss Ally McCoist approves the deal.

Fans' favourite Bougy has held heart-to-heart talks with Coisty and is eyeing a close-season return to the Premiership.

Bougy, 28, says he WON'T invoke any FIFA release clause because he wants to remain on good terms with the club and its supporters.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport from Algeria last night, he said: "If I leave in the summer, I want everything to be clean with Rangers.

"The club must be happy with any transfer. I've been at Rangers for three years and don't want to cause any trouble.

"The club has made things great for me. The last three years have been fantastic but maybe now is the time to move on.

"If that doesn't happen this summer, it's not a problem. I can stay for a fourth year but after that I'd want to see new things and try a new challenge.

"I have won all the titles in Scotland with Rangers. It has been perfect but sometimes you need to move on to try other things.

"My focus is still on the Premier League. I played there for six months with Charlton and I want to go back as six months isn't a long time.

"I've spoken to Coisty and told him that if there is a new challenge which excites me then I'd like to take it. He understands my position. I have told him the truth because I respect him. He knows me, he knows what I need and he knows I have a good relationship with the club but if I go, I'd have to go cleanly.

"I don't want to lose what I have built up."

SunSport understands agents representing Bougherra had been preparing a letter informing Gers of his intention to buy out the last year of his contract for just £600,000.

Senior Gers sources last night insisted they had not received a letter, which would have been certain to spark a legal cash wrangle. Bougy claims he doesn't want to go in such a controversial way.

He added: "I don't want there to be any trouble between me and the club. I want any move to be easy, not to be wrong."

Newly-promoted QPR could offer Bougy a return to the Premier League three years after he left Charlton for Gers in a £2.5m move.

Even if he doesn't go this summer, he WON'T pen a contract extension to stay beyond 2012.

McCoist and new owner Craig Whyte had hatched plans to tie down Bougy as well as Davis, Allan McGregor and Steven Whittaker on new deals.

In a funny way we might not be all that worse off if Bougherra was to pay the club £1,000,000 for his contract. If we sold him for £3,000,000, some of it would go to the agents involved, wouldn't Bougherra be entitled to a percentage ?(unless he actually submitted a written transfer request, which rarely happens), he might also demand a payment for leaving early and not simply letting his contract run down and going on a Bosman next summer and the buying club would want to pay by installments.

Fact is, nobody's beating the door down to sign Bougherra, so if he wants to leave, which is his perogative, take the million and be done with it. Players come and go all the time at Rangers, Bougherra is no diffirent.

He was quoted as saying the only reason he didn't leave last summer was because no bids came in for him. His problem is he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is, or wants to be, and really isn't as big an asset to us as a few of our fans seem to think. I still remember him saying something like 'I'll be waiting for my phone to start ringing' a couple of weeks ago relating to offers from other clubs, and that was the moment I completely went off him. I don't think he's a bad guy, but his desire to 'achieve his ambitions' has undermined his time at Ibrox for me.

Read the bit in bold gentlemen. Ewing claimed he was going to buy out his deal. He did not say he already had fully done so. The bit in bold says a letter was being prepared, but Rangers hadn't received anything. Just because Rangers haven't received anything, doesn't make the first part a lie.

Bougherra is sending extremely mixed messages - he desperately wants to leave but is trying to avoid it being messy and making enemies. If this report is to be believed, he'll do exactly that if anyone sends a letter to Rangers on his behalf trying to buy himself out.

Fundamentally, at no point does Bougherra deny the letter. The article says he does, but nowhere does he say there's no letter.

The plot thickens...

Fair enough, what do you think he's worth then?

With a year of his contract left and the way he has performed this past season ? Not much more than a million I would say. On previous form, and the way he played at the WC in 2010 we should be looking for about 2 mill for him, which would be higher if he had longer left on his contract.

Only IMHO of course.
