Zappa 0
Our transfer window in Scotland doesn't open until 1st July while it's already open down south, so they can sign players from Scottish clubs while we can't sign theirs, right? Obviously we can sign free agents outwith the window, but in the case of contracted players from down south, would we be able to sign them before 1st July without actually registering them and just register them with the SFA when our window opens up here? What about the youth players being brought in for the U17 and U19 squads like the two Norwegian lads? Do they not have to stick to the same transfer window period for registration? No doubt we've covered all this before, but my memory is terrible.
Stimpy 0
Think that's my understanding of it.
rbr 1,278
You can sign players just now , the paper work gets handed in when the window opens , in fact you can sign a precontract anytime and get the paperwork post dated
metlika 0
You can sign players at any time they just can't play. What a stupid window when our season now starts on the 23rd of July. Scottish football at its ineptness.
Zappa 0
Cheers guys, that makes sense. It's a bit strange that our window is in line with France, Germany, Spain and Italy while the English window opens when their season finishes and runs till the 31st August the same as ours. Surely that means the English have a longer registration period than other countries? Is it just that we're not taking advantage of the maximum allowed registration period according to FIFA regulations?
Guest Dutchy
You can sign players just now , the paper work gets handed in when the window opens , in fact you can sign a precontract anytime and get the paperwork post dated Exactly what I was thinking. There will be a lot more wheeling,n,dealing going on outwith the 'offical' dates. Players will still be approached and appraised of the situation. There may be some other teams 'nick' a promised player, but I'm sure that most of the negotiations would be honoured if agreed, even if not quite legal.
Zappa 0
Terry Butcher has said that the Scottish transfer window opens on June 9th. Presumably they've made it 3 weeks earlier this year due to the SPL season kicking off earlier. http://www.teamtalk.com/inverness-ct/6962502/Butcher-confident-of-signings
54andcounting 0
All this transfer window crap is driving me mental....why is there a transfer window? Is it legal? Why don't the players union challenge it? Load a bumff if you ask me.
metlika 0
Its probably there to curtail big clubs buying a player that did well against them to make them less strong.

Curtail big clubs mate?...Who are they? Are they the clubs who keep the smaller clubs down?
