Scotland stars Allan McGregor and Charlie Adam are £12m targets for Aston Villa

Recommended Posts

ASTON Villa are weighing up a £12million double swoop for Scotland stars Allan McGregor and Charlie Adam.

Villa assistant boss Gary McAllister has revealed the Rangers keeper and Blackpool playmaker are on gaffer Gerard Houllier's list of signing targets.

The Frenchman will get another chance to run the rule over the duo in today's Celtic Nations Cup clash with the Republic of Ireland.

Veteran US keeper Brad Friedel looks set to leave Villa after failing to sign a new contract. But they would have to dig deep to buy the 29-year-old Ibrox No.1 as Gers value him at £6m.

And Villa had a £4.5m bid for Adam rejected by Blackpool in January.

But the 25-year-old former Ibrox midfielder wants to leave the relegated side and Midlands giants Villa will battle Spurs and Liverpool for his £6m signature.

McAllister said: "It's no secret we've been chasing Charlie. He has been outstanding this season.

"And Allan's proved himself at international level and in the Champions League."

I was hoping this was going to be an unsubstantiated story with no quotes, but sadly not. Looks like they're interested.

1: They can fuck off for £6M.

1: They can fuck off, period.

We should only sell McGregor if it's for silly money and McCoist should make that clear to Craig Whyte. McGregor shouldn't be leaving Ibrox for under £10m.

You need to get as much as possible for our brilliant keeper as he's worth a lot more to us than these penny pinching ELP sides when they come shopping up in Scotland. Ally needs to hold out for silly money right enough, but I'd hope we ask for so much, it will put off any potential buyers.

The world for Rangers might not be all perfect at the moment, but I'd say we're now in a re-building process, not demolition!!!

Agreed.

I'd really like for Ally to speak to Whyte about it and agree to say publically that if anyone wants McGregor they'll have to stump up a VERY large transfer fee. Realistically I think McGregor is worth about £10m, but I'd like to see us rating him at a value higher than that to allow for haggling/bargaining in the evntuality that a club does come in with serious money to spend which we couldn't afford to refuse. 15 to 20 million wouldn't be an OTT figure to get into the EPL vultures heads because then they'd think they were getting a bargain if they paid £12m (they actually would be, but you know what I mean).

As well as the fact that Villa are not skint by any means. The teams in the ELP get a minimum of £40 million, just for being there. Villa have been in the ELP since it's inception, I think, and they've had a few good positional finishes over the previos seasons.

Money talks as they say, so if they want to talk, do it with money.
