Birmingham release a host of players

Recommended Posts

Alexsandr Hleb, Matt Derbyshire, Obafemi Martins, David Bentley Seb Larsson, Kevin Phillips, Lee Bowyer, Maik Taylor, Martin Jiranek, Marcus & Stuart Parnaby.

All apparently out of contract and now available. In a fantasy land I'd take Hleb, Martins, Bentley, Larsson and maybe Bowyer.

Are any of them feasible?

Well out of that bunch I know of Hleb, when he was at Arsenal, Kevin Philips, I think he was with Sunderland before and Lee Bowyer sounds good.

I'm not sure about there ages and too many of these ELP players would be expensive.

We'd be better looking in the Championship for decent players. Moving to Rangers and European football would be a dream they might never have imagined would happen to them, thus we'd get a better performance from them. In theory!!!

Hleb was on loan from Barcelona so not a chance in hell we would get him. Martins was on loan from Rubin Kazan so again not a chance.

Larsson is the only player who has actually been released that I would like.

Hleb was a big disappointment at Birmingham. Not sure what the issue was.

He came out and said he would rather be playing for arsenal. Before the carling cup final.

I'd defo take seb larrson, great delivery and works hard as well

Hleb was only on loan. Barca paid 17 million euros for him and put a 90 million buyout clause in his contract. Even if we could afford the wages for him on a loan deal there's no way he'd want to play in the SPL, although the attraction of Champions League football is always a factor.

Rubin paid about £15m for Martins last summer. Apparently they would have accepted £5m from Brum for him this summer. Anyway, he underwent surgery about a month ago and has another 2 or 3 months basic recovery period to go through before getting back to full training, so he wouldn't be worth spending big money on as he would miss our CL qualifiers. Would be a good loan deal to make in August if he recovers ok and we qualify for the CL group stages.

Despite the fact that he's 32 I'm actually interested in the defender Martin Jiranek because he's vastly experienced and can play both centre back and right-back. He was in the starting XI which beat Arsenal 2–1 in the League Cup Final and the Brum defence was under heavy duty pressure from Arsenal in that game. Problem is, he declined the chance of another year at Brum after they went down, so if he doesn't want to play in the Championship you have to wonder if he'd want to play in the SPL. Again, the attraction of Champions League football might need to be a major factor.

We couldn't afford Bentley unless Spurs were sending him out on loan again and Larsson will be very sought after.

Their city rivals Villa have also released a bunch of players including Reo Coker, Pires and Carew. There are definitely players, EPL quality players, to pick up.

Well Ally's got fairly good contacts with his time working down that London with his TV show.

Hopfully he can get some business done with good finacial deals.

Here's hoping.

There will be some very highly paid players getting very very twitchy this summer , remember the EPL have introduced the 25 squad players rule and thats before the usual influx of over priced Europeans . Best wait till nearer the end of the transfer window .
