BOOZERS ran for their lives after man armed with a machete burst into a popular pub used by Hamilton Accies fans.

Regulars cowered in fear as the man brandishing a machete strolled into the Academical Vaults in Burnbank Road.

He threatened people in the bar with the weapon and began shouting in an aggressive manner.

Police this week appealed for witnesses after their investigations drew a blank.

The terrifying incident happened on Wednesday, May 4, at 7.40pm ââ?¬â?? the same night that Celtic lost 3-2 to Inverness in the SPL.

Police said the suspect didn't hurt anyone, but caused a massive disturbance in the pub, causing fear and panic among patrons.

Many were so terrified that they fled the pub during the frightening incident.

The area would have been busy with motorists passing by the pub and people visiting nearby takeaways.

People standing at the bus shelter on the opposite side of the road outside Equis, may have witnessed the incident.

The suspect ran off in the direction of Burnbank.

He is described as a white male, between 25-30 years and was wearing white jogging bottoms, a black top and a green Celtic tammy.

Constable Cameron Paton, of Hamilton Police Office, has appealed for witnesses to come forward to catch the knifeman.

ââ?¬Å?I would appeal to anyone who was in the Academical Vaults on the evening of Wednesday, May 4, who we haven't yet spoken to to contact me.

ââ?¬Å?Thankfully no-one was injured during this disturbance, however, the suspectââ?¬â?¢s actions are grossly unacceptable and he has put a lot of people through a terrifying experience.

ââ?¬Å?Information can be treated in confidence if anyone is reluctant to speak to us, but any information at this time would be extremely helpful to the inquiry.ââ?¬Â

Anyone with information can contact constable Paton at Hamilton Police Office on 483300, or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
