Vladimir Weiss: Roberto Mancini wants me to play in a league better than SPL

Recommended Posts

VLADIMIR WEISS fears his dream of a return to Rangers next season will be blocked by Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini - because the Italian doesn't rate the SPL.

Weiss spoke exclusively to RecordSport yesterday as he recovered from Sunday's title celebrations and revealed he has already spoken to new boss Ally McCoist about the possibility of signing up on another season-long loan deal.

The news comes as Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley confirmed he may be back at Ibrox next season on another short-term deal, after being farmed out to the SPL champions back in January.

But while Bartley is hopeful an agreement will be reached, Slovakia winger Weiss admits he faces a battle to convince Mancini that he should stick it out in Scotland for another year.

The 21-year-old said: "I spoke to Coisty about it on Sunday but I really don't know if it's going to happen. I want to stay but it might not be possible.

"Mancini has told me I need another year out on loan but he also said he wants me to go to a better league than the SPL.

"They would want me to go to Spain, Italy, Germany or even another club in England. But they definitely want me to go to a decent league."

Bartley, meanwhile, is awaiting a final decision from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. He said: "Talks are still going on so we'll have to wait and see but if I'm told I can return that would be fantastic."

Yet he's not good enough at the moment to play in the ELP, even though with Rangers he's played in Europe.

Might be a good idea to invite Man City up for a pre-season friendly?

What about the Champions League?

Is that not good enough?

Only a few games a season and teams normally play more tactical. I can imagine they would want him playing in Germany,Italy or Spain on a weekly basis.

Question is, is he good enough to play in those leagues - I mean, will he be a first team pick?

Exactly. There wouldn't be much point in him going to Spain to only play half a dozen games.

As I said in the post above Man City will be wanting to see exactly how good he is and how much he can improve. If he is not good enough for a lower\middle of the league team in Spain then he will never be good enough for Man City.
