Summer Transfer thread - fun while it lasted!

ARSENE WENGER may block Kyle Bartley’s move to Rangers after losing out on Phil Jones to Manchester United.

Central defender Bartley was hopeful of securing a permanent switch to Ibrox after a successful loan period with the SPL side last season.

But Wenger could scupper any move and keep Bartley, 20, as cover if he fails to land a centre-back this summer.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist wants Bartley to sign because of doubts over the futures of captain David Weir, 41, and his Algerian defensive partner Madjid Bougherra, 28.

I don't get Wenger. He has 4 other centre backs ahead of Bartley alright one is quite chronic currently and the other 3 can be a hit or a miss and I also thought he was after Cahill anyway...

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has said that he is a fan of midfielder Neil Danns and could now be poised to make a move to sign the 28-year old.

Danns will become a free agent at the end of June when his contract with Crystal Palace expires and he is expected to leave Selhurst Park. The midfielder could be on his way to the Scottish Premier League if McCoist follows up his interest with a firm contract offer.

McCoist has said that he does need more options in his squad and that he thought Danns could be a hit in Scottish football.

“I think everyone accepts we need more numbers in our squad,” the Rangers manager said. “We need more strength in depth.

“I would describe Danns as a box-to-box midfielder with good physical attributes and he should be suited to Scotland.”

Danns got his first taste of first team football at Blackburn Rovers but failed to win a regular place in the squad at Ewood Park and had several loan spells in the early years of his career. A switch to Colchester United in 2004 saw him playing regularly and a £500,000 move to Birmingham City followed two years later.

The midfielder spent two seasons with the Blues before moving to Palace, where he has been a virtual ever-present in the past three seasons.

Rangers could have competition for Danns’ signature, with several Championship clubs also thought to be prepared to make him an offer. In addition, the Daily Mail has reported that the player is also on a list of transfer targets for Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Shock, horror the BHEASTS are after him as well

David Vaughan has rejected Blackpools final contract offer so he's definately leaving but he's stated that he wants to stay in the EPL and test himself against the best players.

Oh well.

Sport of the World can also reveal McCoist has snubbed the chance to sign ex-Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Gudjohnsen was offered to Gers after new Fulham boss Martin Jol failed to honour the one-year deal the Icelander was promised at Craven Cottage.

However Gers would not entertain 32-year-old Gudjohnsen's £30,000-a- week wage packet.

30k a week for a former CL winner plus Chelsea and Barcelona and Iceland int'l is not as high a wage as I would have expected.

The champions' boss has made the capture of the 29-year-old his top priority.

It's amazing how many players are being called our 'top priority'.

But the signing of Cuellar would be absolutely immense.

Oh well.

Would have been a good bosman but it appears he's happy to collect a big wage rather than trophies.
