Summer Transfer thread - fun while it lasted!

Recommended Posts

STV article published this afternoon suggests our latest bid for the Anderlecht defender was actually only 3 million euros, so about £2,620,000. Still quite a lot of cash, but not as much as was reported previously when we were led to believe that a £3.5m offer had been made.

Hard to know what to believe, but apparently Anderlecht want 4 million euros and won't budge, so we'll have to pay the £3.5m if we want the player.

McKay could face Inverness on Saturday

Australian international Matt McKay could face Inverness on Saturday. The midfielder passed a medical at Murray Park and could be ready to at least be in the squad for Saturday.

McKay was at Murray Park on Sunday before joining up with his Australia for the international against Wales tomorrow night. The £320,000 deal is set to go through subject to a work permit.

But work permit should not prove to be a problem, and the former team mate of Craig Moore and Charlie Miller should join up with his new team mates ahead of the trip to Inverness this weekend.

If you want to see Gers new boy in action then you can catch the Wales v Australia match on Sky Sports 4 tomorrow night. That's if you're not watching the Scotland game.

RANGERS have made £2.5m rated French - Tunisian defender Yohan Benalouane a priority target after losing out on Anderlecht's Roland Juhasz.

Boss Ally McCoist has moved swiftly to try and shore up his back line by pinpointing the Serie A stopper who plays with Cesena as the perfect replacement for the Hungarian who is being forced to remain at his Dutch club.:tongue:

Ironically, Benalouane was wanted by former Ibrox manager Walter Smith last summer when he was at St Etienne but lost out to the Italian side who offered a bigger transfer fee and personal terms.

The 24 year old has however had a troubled time at Cesena playing just 15 times after storming up the tunnel at being substituted in a game against Bologna last December resulting in him being jeered by the local fans.

The 6ft 1in central defender who has played for the French under 21 side was forced to apologise and fell out of favour and has now been offered to Rangers on a loan deal or outright buy basis.

Rangers have made £2.5m rated French - Tunisian defender Yohan Benalouane a priority target

Benalouane has dual nationality and had been hoping to step up to the full international team refusing to accept a call up from Tunisia but FIFA ruled he could no longer represent the country of his birth leaving him in limbo.

Smith described Benalouane who was also interesting Newcastle last year as "a very good young player " and now McCoist is keen to do a deal that will bring him to Ibrox at the second time of asking.

Keeper Neil Alexander has meanwhile called for stability in Rangers thin blue line across the back as boss McCoist steps up his search for more bodies to fill his squad.

With Madjid Bougherra leaving and Juhasz being denied a move by Anderlecht despite a £3m offer the Ibrox side is seeking sufficient back up for the likes of " new " boys Dorin Goian, Kyle Bartley and Lee Wallace.

And the stand-in goalie for number one Allan McGregor reckons a settled back four is vital for Gers Title ambitions this season.

"Whether it is me or Allan playing we need a settled defence in front of us. There have been a lot of comings and goings in recent weeks and it will be a tough decision to reach

"But the sooner we get the boys in and playing on a regular basis the better for everyone concerned."

I would assume there's one pretty unhappy bunny down there in Anderlecht. First, his club renegged on what you would call a gentlemen's agreement, now Rangers supposedly switch targets.
