Summer Transfer thread - fun while it lasted!

(BILD)

RANGERS BOSS ALLY MCCOIST CONFIDENT OF RETAINING STAR TRIO

Story Image

Ally McCoist is confident Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Steven Whittaker will pen new deals

Tuesday June 7,2011

By Scott Burns

RANGERS boss Ally McCoist is confident Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Steven Whittaker will all pen new deals.

Owner Craig Whyte has opened talks with the trio about extending their contracts and McCoist has admitted the feedback from the players has been positive.

McCoist still hasnt given up hope on getting defender Madjid Bougherra to stay at the club beyond next summer.

The Ibrox manager said: ââ?¬Å?I have been away taking in a few games and havenââ?¬â?¢t been able to talk to Mr Whyte yet.

ââ?¬Å?I am due to meet with Mr Whyte when I get back and I will have a clearer idea of things after we have that meeting. I havenââ?¬â?¢t spoken to him any further about signings or any of the ongoing discussions.

ââ?¬Å?On the contract front, I have spoken to a few of the boys and the feedback on the talks has been positive.

ââ?¬Å?Hopefully, we can get all the boys signed up on new contracts, including Madjid. He is a player I definitely want to keep at the club.ââ?¬Â

Whittaker, Davis and Bougherra all have one year left on their current deals, while McGregor has another 12 months on top of that.

Bougherra has admitted he would prefer a new challenge but McCoist is hoping his powers of persuasion can talk him round.

The Rangers boss is already on the lookout for defensive replacements. He will have to wait to find out if captain Davie Weir will agree to play on for another year at Ibrox.

McCoist still wants to bring in another defender and, as Express Sport revealed, his top target is Arsenals Kyle Bartley.

He has also been offered Danny Wilson back on loan from Liverpool and Groningen defender Andreas Granqvist.

They are seen as alternatives should they fail to land the young Gunner. Interest in former Lazio defender Emilson Cribari has now been dropped.

Dundee Uniteds David Goodwillie remains his top striking target but that will depend on the outcome of the players ongoing court case.

Real Valladolid striker Toche, who has scored regularly in Spains second division, is under consideration along with Israeli international Tomer Hemed.

Out-of-contract Dundee United winger Craig Conway is also on McCoists list. Veteran German star Torsten Frings had been put forward but there are concerns due to the fact he will turn 35 later this year.

RANGERS last night binned a cheeky £450,000 bid from Bursaspor for full-back Steven Whittaker.

SunSport can reveal the ambitious Turkish outfit - who already have former Ibrox striker Kenny Miller on their books - swooped for Whitty but had the offer immediately rejected.

Gers want to hold on to the versatile 26-year-old Scotland star and have told Bursa that he is NOT for sale.

But it's believed that Whittaker IS interested in the move, with the Ibrox club told to expect another bid.

Bursa lured Miller in January with a mega-bucks offer and they're desperate to do the same with his international team-mate as boss Ertugrul Saglam looks to rebuild his squad.

Whittaker earns around £8,000 a week at Ibrox. But Bursa are prepared to table an offer which could see him earn more than TREBLE that amount with £25,000 a week.

New Gers boss Ally McCoist is determined to do all he can to keep the former Hibs ace.

He held talks with him four days ago to make it clear he is a key part of his plans.

But with just 12 months on Whitty's deal McCoist might be not be able to keep him - IF Bursa table a better offer.

It's unlikely new owner Craig Whyte will match the wages.

And Gers might be forced into cashing in now rather than seeing him go for nothing in 12 months.

Nono ... this is taken from a Dutch paper, perhaps going by the same name (or taking it from its German sister). I for one wouldn't be surprised to read something like "according to reports in Scotland" in those "news from" Germany. Haven't come accross anything yet.

Rangers's race for Hemed heats up as Italian and Belgian clubs battle for Israeli's signature

Rangers will have to beat off interest from Italy and Belgium if they want to sign Israeli striker Tomer Hemed.

The Maccabi Haifa player made his bow for his country in a 2-1 win over Latvia on Saturday and is available on a Bosman free transfer this summer.

Ibrox coach Ian Durrant watched Hemed in the Euro 2012 qualifier in Riga and although the 24-year-old did not find the net, Sportsmail understands he impressed Ally McCoists right-hand man.

The race for Hemeds signature is expected to intensify over the next fortnight as the player awaits offers and an agent acting for the striker has confirmed McCoists interest.

ââ?¬Ë?Tomer Hemed will be a sought-after player this summer and Rangers are interested,ââ?¬â?¢ said English-based agent Max Meltzer.

ââ?¬Ë?Over the past couple of months, they have watched him in action with Maccabi Haifa and they were in Latvia on Saturday to see him make his debut for Israel.

ââ?¬Ë?Tomer gave a very professional performance.ââ?¬â?¢

Hemed was top scorer in the Israeli league last season with 17 goals as he helped his side lift the title.

The fact he is at the end of his contract with Maccabi means there is no fee involved, which would not be the case if Rangers pursue Dundee Uniteds David Goodwillie or even try to bring back Kenny Miller from Bursaspor.

But with the likes of Cagliari and Bologna, as well as initial suitors KV Mechelen and Anderlecht also interested, it seems certain the player will have options later this summer.

Former Ibrox favourite Miller has now been linked with Wigan and Blackburn after his recent unhappy revelations about life in Turkey, although Bursaspor president Ibrahim Yazici insisted: ââ?¬Ë?Kenny is on holiday just now and we will speak to him when he comes back ââ?¬â? but he wonââ?¬â?¢t be leaving.

ââ?¬Ë?We have made a lot of money available for new transfers ââ?¬â? we are building the club, not getting rid of players and we want Kenny to be a part of that.ââ?¬â?¢

Daily Mail

Dunno and without any disrespect, but if he choses those teams linked above ahead of us, silverware and Champions League football, I would have doubts about his ambitions.

Hemed seems as interesting a player as we've been linked with and represents good value/minimal risk on a Bosman. Given Jelavic, Lafferty (and probably Naismith) are arguably our first choice strikers then I'd rather we kept the bulk of the cash we have for a new defender.

Seems to have went quiet on Vaughan with Conway brought back into the mix - again for free.

Linked with a move for Carlos Cuellar today in The Record.

Cuellar has just had knee surgery, could be out for 3 months, 29 years old now and 30 in August. 1 year remaining on his contract at Villa. Value - £2m?
