Rangers real culprit - leggo

Recommended Posts

Dont have the time to go over your post in full cal, sorry about that.

But if SDM allowed himself an "equal partner" in Advocaat then he is even more culpable than I thought. At no point in time should a Chairman and Manager share an "equal partnership". The Manager's job is to provide success with what he is given. The Chairman's job is to provide the means to do so.... but within REALISTIC means. If SDM allowed Advocaat to dictate what should have been spent then SDM was no more than a fool. And, probably, unworthy of running the club.

With proper financial planning - and SDM certainly had the means at hand to provide such, he should never have been in a state of such shock at his whirlwind ride. With a club like Rangers it shouldnt be that difficult to plan properly - for a start almost half the club's revenues (40% ?) is nigh on guaranteed from the sale of season tickets. On top of that the merchandising revenue was guaranteed too due to the JJB deal. I just cant see the financial planning for a club like Rangers being that difficult - it isnt like we have a plethora of products to sell with a ton of variables. Our variables are primarily how deep we go in domestic cups and whether we make Europe or not. Domestically we should be going deep into ALL cups (so not too much variable there - sure, we could get surprised, but it shouldnt be enough to have us where we currently are) and for Europe we should always have a plan for making the CL groups, being in Europa and also for not being in either.

Shouldnt be too difficult.

Lets not separate these two issue. It is not one or the other it is both. SDM was naive and Dick Advocaat is a money grabbing mercenary who has broken contracts, sneaked out of Hotel rooms and countries to other countries who made him a better offer. As soon as the money at Ibrox dried up he was for the off. He signed a contract with Belgium to manage their international team. Then he dropped them like a ton of bricks for the big money of Russia after Belgium had bent over backwards to let him manage AZ while under contract to Belgium. I would have had respect for Advocaat if he had stayed on to manage Rangers after the money had dried up. I have totally no respect for Dick Advocaat. In fact I hope his next shite is a hedgehog walking backwards. Dick Advocaat and Murray were a duo of black widows for Rangers football club. You can't blame one without blaming the other.

I heard Murray offered Dick even more cash if he signed a new contract. Imagine our position now if he had signed!

The money had probably dried up by then so there was no chance of Advocaat ever signing it.

Out of interest Pete, what's the current opinion of Advocaat in Holland?

Roughly the same as I am saying. My information is obviously based on what is printed in the Dutch media as I don't know him personally. My only personal problem\experience with him was that in a pre season game against an amateur club that pays a fortune to play against Rangers, instead of allowing the players into the bar\canteen to sign a few autographs they were pushed onto the bus and disappeared into the night. One small kid that had been promised an autograph of the players later was pretty upset. I gave him my Rangers scarf and offered my excuses. This is not the reason I dislike him his mercenary money sucking life is why I dislike him and that is open for everyone to see.

Sorry pete but that I have always had a curiosity about this, so forgive me if I seem to be playing dumb. Advocaat may indeed be a money-grabbing whore but it has always seemed to have been PERSONALLY. The money didnt dry up at Rangers from the perspective of him staying - he personally would have been doing OK.

The money drying up at Rangers wasnt the money on offer to the manager but rather for transfer fees and wages for improving the squad.

Him being a money-grabber doesnt have a completely direct correlation to the financial woes of Rangers. Greedy bastard yes, but I cant imagine that he would have been looking to screw the club over by giving massive contracts to players, that would have been the responsibility of SDM at the time.

He may be a morally corrupt individual but I dont think that it was this that caused our failings. No-one will be able to convince me it was anyone other than SDM that did that.

Craig, It is not just his wage. Advocaat does rate himself the best coach in the world but he needs money to do that. If he has no money to spend he is for the off.
