Lloyds Give Whyte Go Ahead

Recommended Posts

Reports that Whyte and Rangers board are currently in a meeting with 'all parties keen to get it done'. I doubt Murray would allow that meeting to happen if Whyte had not provided proof. Who knows though?

Suspect Murray has been leaking info today to catalyse Whyte. Up to him to show RFC the money for once and for all.

Rumours flying around that tonights meeting is dotting I's and crossing T's, bank paperwork to be signed tonight along with deal ready to be announced late tomorrow afternoon. No idea at all on truth behind them but sepperate sources reporting identical stories from different places, if that makes sense?

They could probably get a lot of people interested with a package something like this @ £10 per month, so £120 yearly -

5% off cost of Season Ticket.

Monthly letter from the board via email including a quarterly letter via snail mail.

Invitation to attend the AGM.

2 x 20% off vouchers for Rangers Soccer Schools Residential Camps.

30% off the cost of RangersTV yearly subscription.

5 x 25% off vouchers for Rangers Megastore.

2 x 25% off vouchers for Rangers matchday hospitality.

2 x 25% off vouchers for online Rangers DVD store.

20 x 10% off vouchers for Rangers personalized prints.

20 x 10% off vouchers for photos and Special Edition Memorabilia at rangerspics.com.

AGM's generally are only open to shareholders. I cant see that offer being a goer to be honest.

5% off the ST would equate to about 25 quid, right ? No harm in that one.

30% off yearly subscription to RTV - that is about 15 quid.

Soccer Schools discount - would be an incentive to some but not all. Not a bad idea as it might not cost a whole lot.

25% off vouchers at the Megastore - say you bought the new top at 40 quid - that is 10 quid there. But if you have 5 vouchers and but all 3 tops for yourself and family/friends then you are at 50 quid discount.

25% off matchday hospitality - I suspect (could easily be wrong) that RFC wouldnt be able to fulfill that obligation with the members they would generate.

25% off DVD's. Not a biggie, but could generate additional revenue.

10% off personalised prints - not a bad idea

10% off at rangerspics.com - not a bad idea too.

So we are looking at probably 90 quid with the 3 outlined above (ST, RTV and Megastore) and this doesnt include any savings from any of the others. So the average punter would see this as being decent value I would suspect.

And it is hard to see how the club could make LESS money - people only get the benefits by paying 120 a year as a member - and if they save that 90 - they COULD save more with the other offers but would also be increasing the revenue of the club in doing so - then the club are probably still at least 30 quid a year better off than they probably would have been.

But you also are offering a plethora of items which may, or may not, be used. But initially they will be seen as attractive - enough to bring in new members I would suspect.

CRAIG Whyte last night cleared a major hurdle in his bid to buy Rangers when he survived a grilling by Ibrox directors.

They summoned Whyte to Glasgow to get answers to questions they and the fans have been asking for five months.

And soon after he'd left, a source close to the talks revealed he had won over chairman Alastair Johnston and his men.

The board demanded to know how much money Whyte has and whether it is enough not just to buy Rangers but to invest substantially and ensure a brighter future for the club.

Although proof of funding had been produced already by Whyte a source admitted it has yet to be shown that money is available for team strengthening.

Johnston will announce Rangers' interim figures this morning when it will be revealed the bank debt has been reduced from £29million to £20m but that could now be cleared completely within days.

Whyte remains determined to grab the club from Sir David Murray as quickly as possible to leave time for new manager Ally McCoist to rebuild a squad which will disintegrate at the end of the season.

Five loan players will leave, two will go because they are out of contract and McCoist will have only 13 signed players if Rangers are still in the hands of the bank.

Whyte realises he has to conclude his deal now but last night he was still waiting for clearance from Lloyds to proceed.

There are many who still doubt Whyte but by showing up at the board meeting he did move a significant step closer.

Weary

The millionaire businessman arrived at Glasgow Airport just after 3pm and sped to the meeting to press home his bid.

The 39-year-old venture capitalist's presence could not have been timed better because some Rangers directors were growing weary of the saga which began in November when Whyte first broke cover.

Record Sport can reveal patience was at snapping point because the board felt Whyte had been given enough time to seal his deal with Murray and Lloyds.

Before the meeting one senior source said: "We have a duty to protect Rangers and although we are desperate for the club to find a new owner it is incumbent upon us also to make sure we do not allow ownership to change hands and then discover at a later date that all we have done is rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic. That is why we must ask Mr Whyte for answers."
