It's a mercy John Reid wasn't on the pitch for the Celtic v Rangers punch-up

As a privy counsellor, we might have hoped former Labour minister John Reid – now Baron Reid of Cardowan – would be discreet when discussing the controversial Celtic v Rangers punch-up.

Celtic’s thuggish manager, Neil Lennon, was seen lunging at Rangers coach Ally McCoist.

But Reid’s view is indulgent. ‘We have a great manager who is doing a great job,’ he says.

Isn’t it a mercy pugnacious Reid wasn’t on the pitch himself when the fracas took place? If he had, the current inquiry might be under the auspices of the UN.
