ian1964 10,831
AYR United under 19s face their biggest test of the season on Sunday when they host Rangers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup. Rangers are a SFL Performance level side and have made the final for the past five years, only being beaten by Celtic last year. The tie, at Somerset Park, kicks off at 2pm. Due to the numbers expected, stewards are required and as such there will be a £3 entry fee although children are free. The charge will include a half-time draw ticket. Johnny Hubbard MBE will also be in attendance as The Football Academyâs guest after his years of service to football in Ayr. The 19s seemed to have one eye on the Rangers clash when they lost in a seven goal thriller to Montrose at Prestwick Academy. There were places for 17s players Cammy Marlow, recent convert Lee Lockhart and new player Ian Aitken. Normal starters Roddy Paterson, Dale Moore, Sean Kelly, Robbie Crawford, JJ Hawkshaw and Gareth Armstrong were sidelined, whether through injuries or protection for this weekend. Aitken fired Ayr ahead in eight minutes and Scott Johnston added a second soon after. But despite being in control, they lost two goals just on the interval. Ayr brought on Paterson and 16s player, Mark Shankland to shake things up but it was Montrose who edged ahead. Aitken equalised with his second goal but Montrose grabbed the winner despite keeper Darryl Jones being seemingly fouled. The 15s beat Kilmarnock in a cracker at Prestwick Academy. Ryan Nisbett missed two great chances before he eventually made the breakthrough with a clinical finish from 15 yards. Under 14s Reece Lappin and Sean McKenzie were introduced and both played a big part. In the third period, Sean McKenzie had a goal ruled offside before Killie equalised. Ayr finished the game stronger and scored the winner in the dying seconds when Steven McCarrison latched on to a loose ball in the box and buried the ball into the corner. Fixtures: Friday: 13s v Kilmarnock (Almswall Park, Kilwinning, 6.30pm). Sunday: 14s v Rangers (Murray Park), 15s v Rangers (Belmont Academy, noon), 16s v Rangers (Belmont Academy, 2pm), 19s v Rangers (Somerset Park, 2pm). Big game for the wee Rangers, good luck lads
