Details of Rangers fans meeting , today , with Neil Doncaster

Recommended Posts

It's bit of a shame that the RST didn't open it's survey up to Rangers fans outside it's membership!

You mean the sixteen people surveyed might not be representative? Never mind, the great and the good got their names in lights again so it must have been a worthwhile exercise.

Reading that I can see the arguments for a 10 team league a bit better but its all short term aims and too reliant on Rangers and Celtic and Sky's money. Its all for more income in the short term.

The issue of summer football or play offs etc is all irrelvant and a different argument altogether as you can still have a 18 or 10 team league with play off structure any time of the year.

They havent looked at a 16 team league with summer football - that would earn clubs more straight away as more fans would go to matches. All they have said is its a "non starter".

I'm not sure that more people would go to football in the summer. People could miss 2 or 3 games when they are on holiday and there are plenty of other alternatives.

But the option is there....as it currently stands games get called off in the winter and end up being played midweek in freezing Jan and Feb which results in a loss of attendance straight away.

10 team or 16 team league, 1 thing I think every agrees with is the season needs to start a lot earlier.

It is pretty obvious that supporter feelings are of the lowest priority amongst the clubs and authorities.

Good on the Rangers fan groups getting involved but it certainly seems far too late in the day to affect any decisions.

Make tickets cheaper and maybe more people will go. I am paying 42 euro's to go and watch Dortmund v Schalke (which is the same as a Rangers Celtic match). I will pay it once just to see what the atmosphere is like but never again. People just can't afford those prices on a weekly basis.

That's what I was thinking! Assuming ticketing for football comes under demand and supply law, in particular, elasticity of demand, then by lowering the prices could we fill our ground or gain more ST holders? We're around 42k ST holders, if we were to go cheaper could we attract another 4-6 thousand that would either increase ticket revenue or the same, but with more fans going through the gate other revenue would see a rise.

Thoughts?

We currently have one of the highest % per fan to seat ration in British football , according to Bain at the last AGM , so any decrease would have to be minimal to make any great difference , I think from memory we were just over 90% capacity
