pete 2,499
St Johnstone clash with Rangers called off on police advice Dec 28 2010 ST JOHNSTONE'S home match with Rangers has been postponed due to treacherous conditions outside McDiarmid Park. The SPL game had been due to go ahead tomorrow night, but police moved quickly, urging them to call it off because of ice on roads and pavements in the surrounding area of the stadium. Rangers had hoped the game would be given the green light ahead of this weekend's Old Firm clash. However, the SPL leaders could now go into the derby match trailing their city rivals, who play Motherwell tomorrow night at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon's men are two points behind Rangers meaning a vital win would see them leapfrog the current title holders - although Rangers will have two games in hand. That is a body blow but I suppose it means less chance of injuries for Sunday. Less match practice as well of course.
ian1964 10,780
We're all big boys, walking on a wee bit of ice is always dodgy, canny believe the polis get so much say in if a fixture should go ahead, the weather forecast is not bad. It's denying clubs money and the SPL should over rule this. Do the polis close down shopping centres because of ice on the pavements???,and why is there ice on the pavements??,the local councils should be held responsible, remind me again what we pay our council tax for???. Disgrace.
