Europa League - possible opponents

What's not great about being the semifinal of the League Cup?

I was almost with you until this point. Winning the league's great. Playing in the CL after Christmas is great. Winning two games against Dunfermline and Kilmarnock to get to the League Cup semi final doesn't constitute "great" in my book.

One of the biggest reasons Rangers are one of the greatest clubs in the world is that we're never happy, we're always striving for better, always striving for more. If you want the semi-final of the League Cup every season, a good opening 14 games and "better than average", you may just have chosen the wrong club to support.

Just my opinion.

You're missing the point. An average start to a season will not have us 2 points ahead of second placed Celtic with a game in hand, and we're not always through to the cup semis. This is a well above average start to the season - in the top 10% - an A+.

Perhaps my "great" is coming across as more grandiose than it was meant. Saying, "That was a great pint," does not make it legendary - however, there is no reason that a treble this year cannot be legendary, if we can achieve it.

I would counter that you may have chosen the wrong club to support if you think winning two trophies and doing not bad in Europe is something to be depressed about - that happens to me when we win bugger all - or just a one of the cup competitions. What is the point of being successful if you can't even enjoy it? You can have aspirations but there is also the sense in having your feet on the ground. Lambasting a team for not realising your wildest hopes and dreams is incredibly unfair and if you apply it to your own life your only realistic ambitions are to be permanently depressed.

Sometimes you have to change your outlook depending on the circumstances and we're doing amazingly well considering our financial plight and lightness of squad numbers. That makes our success all the more remarkable - and I can't see why that's not "great".

Who's "lambasting"? Who's "depressed"? I merely took issue with classing this season as "great", particularly as we're not even halfway through it yet. It's shaping up to be a decent season, but you win nothing in December. We played some superb stuff in the first two months of the season and have dropped off the pace a wee bit since, a few last minute winners and a couple of ropey home results including a hammering from Hibs. You can't qualify everything you say with "ah, but the financial situation". If anything you do a disservice to genuinely good teams like 1992/93 and 1999/00. They were A+ sides.

Calscot I am in no way decrying your points , however in my opinion these are the least we should be aiming at , we have resources way ahead of all bar septic , a team who have been horsed out of two european competitions already , so domestically we should be aiming high .

As for Europe yes compared to last year we have done well , however it is by a miracle we are third and considering our squad you have to admit we have been mighty lucky we have achieved what we already have .

This is my point our squad is so threadbare that in some games we haven't been able to fill our bench , we desperately need new players yet the thought of even resigning Miller is being seen as something to rejoice about , we are only ever one day away from another disaster , might sound a bit negative to you but it's reality to me

You could make a strong argument we were unlucky not to get more.

Beat Valencia at home as we should have bar bad luck and our loss against Man U would not have counted us out. We would have gone into the final round needing a win and man u to win at home. Could have been oh so different.

If anything I think we've been more unlucky again in Europe this year, though not to the same extent as last.

If you look at out the team and bench then surely you must agree that even though we played well we were playing well above ourselves , we were down to the bare bones , in fact we still are down to the bare bones , playing the way we do is all about the results and the financial rewards they bring it's not about trying to do anything else , surely we should be a bit better than that .I do realise fully the financial position we are in and accept that for the time being this is what we are faced with but the future must hold something better .
