Mark McGhee sacked as boss of Aberdeen

Aberdeen

Mark McGhee has been sacked as manager of Aberdeen with his side sitting second bottom of the Scottish Premier League table.

The Dons said on their website that McGhee and assistants Scott Leitch and Colin Meldrum "have left the club".

Chairman Stewart Milne said: "On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Mark, Scott and Colin for their time at Aberdeen."

He said details of interim arrangements would be announced shortly.

Milne has not set a timescale for a permanent appointment.

I thought they would keep him as they couldnt afford to sack him but I suppose relegation would have cost them more. Pity.

Beeb says Calderwood may return which is surprising. Others linked are Butcher, John Hughes, Strachan and Gus McPherson.
