Breaking News: Rangers to be sold before Xmas

Recommended Posts

TYCOON Craig Whyte is ready to hand Walter Smith a £20million cash bonanza if he seizes control of Rangers next month.

Lifelong Gers fan Whyte, 39, is locked in talks with Sir David Murray to buy the SPL champs before the January transfer window.

The businessman would take over Gers' debt and also invest heavily in new signings and contract renewals for current stars.

SunSport understands Whyte would make the bumper funds available for Smith to strengthen his squad as he seeks to end his own Ibrox career with three-in-a-row glory.

The Gers gaffer, due to hand over the reins to Ally McCoist in May, is working with a squad stripped to the bare bones.

He didn't have enough players to fill the bench last weekend and had been told by Lloyds bankers there would be NO cash available in January.

But that will change dramatically if successful venture capitalist Whyte, with business interests totalling £1billion, can seal a deal with Murray.

It's understood Whyte is acutely aware of the problems Smith and McCoist have faced as Gers juggled huge debts.

The £4m signing of Croat striker Nikica Jelavic in the summer was only funded by the sales of Danny Wilson and Kevin Thomson.

But Gers lost fans' favourite Kris Boyd due to an inability to match the wages on offer in the Championship.

Now Whyte is ready to make money available to improve offers currently on the table to the likes of Kenny Miller, Allan McGregor and Sasa Papac and fund signings.

Only this season's SPL champs are guaranteed a place in next term's Champions League qualifiers and Whyte wants to give Gers every chance of landing that all-important slot.

Smith WON'T spend anything like £20m in January but that would leave funds available for McCoist next summer.

I'd like to know where this £20million warchest comes from?

I doubt the guy will be giving us it out of the good of his heart so how do we pay off this £20million when push comes to shove?
