Gribz 966
The middle is the area Ive worried about since the summer. Its looked stale in the last few matches and now Edu has an injury so we are down to the bare bones. Its a great chance to unleash Fleck and make us more attacking.
bluedan 93
Yep,we have bigger games (of course they're all big) coming up, and we need to rotate. That doesn't mean changing the starting line up by 4 or 5, just maybe a couple at a time. Would like to see it happen now because for 1,it's needed and 2, it's much more less likely to happen at the buisness end of the season.
Gribz 966
Agreed Dan. For example Miller has mostly been playing upfront on his on but why not put him on the bench and have Lafferty through the middle on his own, but he put them both on tonight. WS just likes to accommodate certain players which is the worst thing to do.
Zappa 0
The middle is the area Ive worried about since the summer. . I said we were going to end up short in midfield a year before that & guys on here were saying I was barking mad & that we had more than enough central midfielders. Since then we sold Mendes, which I thought was the right thing to do at the right time, but it left us even shorter. Davis is our best central midfielder, yet he gets played (supposedly) on the right quite often? But why? Naismith should have started on the right against Hibs tonight, not Davis!
Gazza_8 233
Saturdays midfield will be :sn: :lm: :sd: :vw: No fresh faces or major changes.
ascender 352
The worrying thing though is that there's been a few times already this season where he could have changed things around in terms of starting lineup or with different substitutions, but hasn't. Some of the younger guys need time on the pitch with the first team urgently, otherwise, we'll be saying the same thing in another few months. You only have to look at how long some of our younger first team players have taken to settle to see that even playing regularly, the "reserves" could take a season or so to find their feet. The squad is looking bare in terms of options in the midfield. We have two players in Edu & McCulloch who can play the defensive/holding role, but we're really lacking other players to come in and play in the other positions. Its not as bad if you have Naismith wide on the right as an inside forward almost, but we can't setup so attack-minded in every game. With Weiss disappointing so far, you then have to play someone like Lafferty on the left who is also a forward playing out of position. Even with our defence, we do have some cover there to mix things up, rest players etc, but WS doesn't seem keen to do it for whatever reason.
metlika 0
I thought or heard McCulloch was struggling ith fitness/injury. I would like to see Fleck getting a chance. I would probably see Naismith dropping out more than any others in that team Gazza, don't know why but just a feeling.
