The club was already in trouble and taking 25 points off them could practically finish them. 10 or 15 points and they would still have had a shout, but 25 means they're almost certainly going down. They knew the rules before they put themselves into this position - further, they were still bringing players in just a few short weeks prior. If the SPL got their finger out and just increased the number in each league and reduced the amount of divisions then good sized clubs like Dunfermline, Dundee, Falkirk and Partick would be in better positions, in fact all clubs could be in a better position.
