Barry Ferguson On Rangers v Valencia

Recommended Posts

I liked their 1999, Claudio Lopez, Gaizka Mendieta and Kily Gonzalez.

Their old team wasn't bad either Villa, Silva and Mata who they still have.

They will be tough and I'd be happy with a draw because I don't think we can achieve 2nd place.

Is it just me or might they also be wondering what they'll be up against this week?

I doubt they will be fearing us as much as we fear them.

But my wish from the outset was 3rd spot - never believed we could take 2nd. We are currently in a good spot to at least get 3rd - with an outside chance of 2nd.

I was at that game in 1999 and still to this day say its the best side Ive seen with my eyes at an actual match, they were immense.

We were a really good side then, we were unlucky not to beat bayern after being all over them for 90 mins then they nicked at 90th min equalizer and we strolled past PSV...not to mention Parma the previous season in the UEFA cup, but Valencia were a different class.

i was at both legs and have to say that valencia were the best team i have seen. i left ibrox after the home leg knowing that i had watched my team being well beaten by a class act.

They drew with Atletico, a good side,

I know, I said that. It's part of the reason I believe they're being over rated.

and outplayed Barca for spells at the Nou Camp last night going a goal in front. They aren't overrated at all.

Why did they lose then to a rather out of form Man Utd at home?

I'm not denying they're a very good team, but they've not yet beaten a really good big team this season. Either drawn or lost. And that suggests the hysteria over them is a little misguided.

Valencia were awesome but if we played like we did against Parma, PSV and Bayern, we could've beaten them. It was an off night for us.

difference is we tried to beat them back in those days, home and away. Over cautiosness is the order of the day now im afraid.

Lets face it, our record against Spanish oppo is pish. Valencia are a side to watch for but we can't afford to give them too much respect or time because they will kill us. I think we can hurt them in wide areas, through the middle they are strong and have players that can shoot from distance so our tactics will have to be spot on. At Ibrox though, i'm sure we can sneak it.

P.s, i remember that Valencia team and they were exceptional. That club somehow always manages to put a good side together despite they're simliar cash restrictions.
