No we wont because it's an unfair comparison , we spent �£4 million for the first time in years on a player that has to work out , they spend over �£7 million on an unknown protugese player that they will let mature in their reserves

Id say we are being underestimated, as I said Wigan, West Brom, Blackpool, Sunderland, Blackburn are just 5 teams who dont have as good as a starting XI as we do.

 

Id also say Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea would fancy taking 3 points off Wolves away more so than getting a win at Ibrox.

 

I looked at Middlesboro' last line up and they have players who are not Premier League class and players who I wouldnt have in our starting XI.

 

It could also be said that Strachan has lost the plot and if Southgate for EG had the same team Boro might be top of the that league!!

Ok its an unfair comparison, but this is how i see the game panning out, we will more than likely play a 4-1 4-1 formation with kenny miller being the lone striker, we will be defending for the majority of the game and see probably 30% of ball possession! now it might look as if im giving us no chance of creating anything but i feel we could struggle dealing with there midfield and wingers with cross balls, now this is my opinion.

And I agree with you 100 % unfortunately , �£40 million would make a hugh difference unfortunately you also have to factor in the wages these overpaid primadonns get .

 

I have argued this before , teams in the EPL are getting bought for anywhere between �£100 -�£400 million depending on the club , they get �£40-50 million guaranteed from sky and bigger sponsorship money tan us however they have horrendous wage bills and are scrapping for a european place whether C/L or Europa league .

 

We on the other hand can be bought for approx �£30 million with a vastly reduced wage bill and running costs though the money we get from Sky and sponsorship is less , but we are all but guaranteed European football if we were run properly , if I had the money know who I would buy it's a no brainer . However that's probably my head ruling my heart

I think if the OF had joined England in say 1993, we'd easily be one of the top teams although I don't know if many fans would like our situation. We may not have won much despite competing and instead had a load of second places and top 5 finishes and there would be many complaining about the �£55+ ticket prices and �£1000+ seasons.

 

Then there's the odd bad seasons where we finish mid table or even get relegated like Newcastle. We can't guarantee that we'd be immune to this.

 

In the end we might still struggle to compete financially with Man U and Arsenal due to our catchment area being the 5m in Scotland compared to those teams now exploiting the 53M in England especially Man U but Arsenal having a huge affluent population of London and the home counties which allows them to fill up with extortionately priced tickets.

 

Then we'd still not compete financially with Chelsea and Man City with their sugar daddy money. I think this is where the likes of Newcastle fall down with the other provincial teams never getting a look in.

 

England are going the same way as Scotland with only 3 serious contenders with Man City being an anomaly that makes a mockery of professional football.

 

We might also have been ripe for takeover and mismanagement like Liverpool and suffer a similar footballing fate.

 

It's all impossible to predict and our paradigms would now be completely different with us probably just trying to chase a CL place at best. I don't really think we'd be much happier with our lot.

 

The one thing that could have made a difference would for us to have not been given the knock back by Alex Ferguson whose reasons seem to have been lack of spending money offered - a couple of years before Holmes came in and changed everything.

 

However we are where we are and have to make the best of it and have to remember that we've never really been European beaters or normally able to compete with the best in England who used to always dominate Europe. We were dominant at home and we're still doing that so not much has changed for the worst from say the 60's onwards except for a few good Euro runs which we've also had recently.

 

We have to content ourselves that the EPL is becoming a freak show and the whole thing is a teetering house of cards.

 

If we concentrate on home form this season we're 4 wins for 4 which is a better start than many a season and only have one challenger again with a rookie manager.

 

If we get too lost up our arse with the current situation we'll never enjoy the football which is what it is all about anyway.

BTW our income in the EPL could potentially have increased hugely if we had joined early. If we were finishing near the top we'd be getting about 70M from TV and maybe 35M from the CL. Then there's the vastly increased sponsorship money plus a full 70k stadium with doubled ticket prices plus increased corporate prices with additional suplimentary income like catering etc.

 

I think we'd easily bring in as much as Liverpool, if not more with turnover going from 50m to about 250m. Of course in trying to compete we might also have a 500m debt to service and be limited by the bank... especially if SDM was still in charge.
