Danny 0
Thomson wasn't playing. Did for us in the CL in 2008. McDonald in front of Miller? No thanks. Miller's terrific but has been quite average in the CL. Robson in front of who? McManus in front of who? Bougherra? No way. Weir? Based on the Scotland game, Weir looked the better player. But this isn't really about the CL is it. It's about the OF competing in the Championship as things currently stand, and Middlesbrough's current influx of OF players gives some idea of where the OF might stand there. So a maximum of 2 (possibly), and even then they're not automatic picks. I don't see that a struggling Middlesborough team reflects badly on Rangers ability to hold their own against the lower end of the EPL or the top Championship teams. We struggle at times in the SPL. There are much much much better teams in the Championship than Hamilton. As for us competing against the bottom of the EPL, you really are having a laugh.
wabashcannonball 0
Fuk the EPL we have our own league piss poor as it is, we need to be improving our own setup rather than getting involved with that fekin bankrupt cesspit, if sky goes tits up they are fuked....and don't think it couldn't happen...
calscot 0
While Middlesburgh could be some sort of barometer for the old firm in the championship, the caveat is it's a statistical example of one for only a few games. It could just be one team not settling and having a bad run. I also see them as lesser to our team looking at the squad - and the best players they have signed are either not playing or not playing well. Boyd is an enigma and only Smith seems to have gotten anywhere near his best out of him. By the sound of Hateley's analysis, is now only interested in banking his huge wage. I currently think Middlesburgh would finish 3rd in the SPL. Ex Old Firm players are probably easier to encourage for challenging for the championship than for fighting a mid-table battle. There's a lot of factors and right now it looks like we'd struggle to get promoted to the EPL although the increase in finances from playing in the Championship would help. Most EPL teams could not have touched us 10 years ago, despite us being in the SPL, so it shows how quickly things could change in the future.
Zappa 0
FYI - The Championship's 24 clubs get TV rights money of around £90 million per year between them in comparison to our £13 million between 12 clubs. Their league also gets more money from the Npower sponsorship deal than we get for ours. Although it's not that huge a sum when compared to the TV rights deals, it's still about 3 times more money over 3 years than our deal is worth over 4 years. Where they really get a helping hand is the money they get for going up to the EPL and parachuting back down a year or two later. The parachute payments are now in the region of £48 million per relegated club over 4 years with almost 70% of that figure paid over the first two years. If they manage to stay up for a year before going back down they're onto a substantial sum of cash from the EPL TV rights. Where clubs seem to fail miserably down there is by over-spending on players in a bid to stay in the EPL, hence so many clubs in recent years have been in serious serious financial trouble when failing to bounce straight back up after relegation. Anyway, around 4 or 5 seasons ago the revenue generated by clubs in the Championship made it Europe's sixth richest league and that is unlikely to have changed.
wabashcannonball 0
A wee question for all those who want to jump the dyke at Hadrians Wa',........ are you prepared to sacrifice our clubs identity as a Scottish institution by taking if it was offered the tainted EPL fools gold, the irish mob don't count they never had a Scottish identity. And don't come back with the bollox that we would still be as we always have been....we would have sold our soul and our heritage for english and aussie bawbees.....my club is priceless the fuks aint got enough shekels to ever afford us...........
Bluedell 5,601
Did for us in the CL in 2008. Not relevant to my question. Miller's terrific but has been quite average in the CL. So you would prefer to have McDonald in front of Miller? But this isn't really about the CL is it. It's about the OF competing in the Championship as things currently stand, and Middlesbrough's current influx of OF players gives some idea of where the OF might stand there. Given that virtually none of the Middlesborough team are good enough to get into our team, they are a poor example of how how we would get on there. We struggle at times in the SPL. There are much much much better teams in the Championship than Hamilton. As for us competing against the bottom of the EPL, you really are having a laugh. Guys like Burke and Rae couldn't hack it with us and yet they're playing for a team that are top of the championship. Charlie Adam was never a regular and look where he is now. We struggle against Hamilton, we beat Celtic convincingly, we reach the final of the UEFA Cup. You can pick out various things to show our relative standing. Middlesborough are just a crap example.

Like a shot. I'd prefer to see my club testing itself at the highest level possible each week, rather than being in a footballing backwater and being too scared to go forward and using "identity" as poor excuse for a lack of ambition.
Gazza_8 233
With our current squad playing the way it is we'd get absolutely hammered. We'd be relegation contenders! The 1st season or two would be a real struggle. I agree with Cal though, Middlesboro would struggle in the SPL. They're a nothing side.

You may be confusing ambition with achievment. We have a lot more of both, than any englunder mob. :spl:
