ascender 352
Hilarious stuff and it couldn't have happened to a nicer man. So many questions.... Will this mean they're going to be more of a challenge in the league with less games to play? I see they're being linked with another couple of players this morning, will that still happen? How are they going to be able to afford all these players, let alone keep them happy? I still can't believe what Mowbray and Lennon have done in terms of dismantling the spine of a team and replacing it (twice). The one big positive for us is that we still have the core of a team who've been together (and been winning together) for a few years now, regardless of others who've left or come in. On the flip side of gloating, its been another miserable night for Scottish clubs and our coefficient, which really is worrying given the state of the SPL. I only hope that the end result of all this down-sizing is that our new business model is based on us not qualifying for the CL each year.

calscot 0
Our coefficient is now dreadful - Rangers are the only club out of five who are still in Europe, and we've gained the most points for Scotland without kicking a ball. If you look at just the coefficients for the last three years (ie after our UEFA cup run), Scotland lie 27th and don't look like getting any better as countries below that have mostly more teams left. The SPL are a laughing stock - if you take away the OF and recalculate we'd be in the 40's and around the same level as Ireland. Keep Celtic and take us away and it's not much better. It's a shocking state of affairs and you'd think teams who can take points off the OF now and again, would be able to do the same thing now and again to average clubs in Europe. The third and fourth teams in our league should be able to compete with their peers in leagues from similar sized countries. It's no wonder Rangers often struggle in Europe when we're so used to playing such dross that we think Aberdeen away is a hard game. It's probably a shock when you go from thinking you've done well by eking out three points from a difficult game at Tannadice against a team who can't do anything at all in Europe, to then play the likes of Valencia away. The rest of the SPL may hate us but they really have to start looking in the mirror because without us they seem to be one of the worst leagues in Europe. But I suppose it extends further than the SPL, and we need to start looking beyond the Scottish Parliament and Scottish culture as a whole. Take Andy Murray and Chris Hoy away and we're a nation who can't compete at any sports at all.

ascender 352
And you know, the thing is that fans of other clubs have been pleased with failures in Europe because they reckon it will level the playing field in the SPL if Gers and Celtic can't get in to the CL.
metlika 0
If we get some points it won't be so bad, Spain are 23rd btw. Most of their teams have only started so that doesn't help. Scottish football had a great season in 07/08, slightly lucky as well, and after that its been going downhill fast, we have also had some duff teams playing in Europe, Gretna for example. Money is also big issue, we get next to nothing in TV deals, Setanta's collapse has caused huge problems as our current TV deal now is half of what we were supposed to be gettting from Setanta.
calscot 0
Spain are 3rd when you total up the last 3 seasons. Not only that they have seven teams still in the competition who can gain points for them - and they are good enough to gain a load. We have one team left and how many points are we likely to acheive? Each point we get is also divided by 5... In two years our 07 season won't count and on current form, we're like to be way, way down the rankings in the 20's.
metlika 0
I was looking at the current season, rather than the past 5. Who can we blame, the diddies? Our lack of progression from all teams over the years? Our style of play? There are too many questions about how crap our football is.

Look up Screebs other stats thread on FF and it shows how we are by far and away the best contributor to the Scottish co-efficient since the Champions League began.
