SFA won't punish McGregor

Recommended Posts

We've got a more than able backup GK who can fill in at the drop of a hat. If McGregor is dropped, I've got full confidence in Alexander to come in and do a job.

One thing I can't understand is the double standards shown by the SFA. Suspend Lafferty after the Mulgrew embarrassment yet let McGregor off with his dive.

Is it because the ref booked McGregor that the SFA can't take matters further?

It's because McGregor's actions didn't lead to a "mistake" in sending off an opponent and hence influence the result. Made Shagger look stupid but had little other impact. For the record Mulgrew should still have walked and other including, I believe, Lee Hendrie at Villa have been sent off for the motion or intent of a headbutt that never actually connected. Contact is not a requirement for a card I don't believe.

That is correct Gav. If McGregor was booked for the incident then the SFA can take no further action. The referee felt that yellow was a suitable punishment at the time and the SFA cannot override that.

Didn't the referee also book Lafferty for the nonsense against Aberdeen? Anyway, agree totally about Alexander - why should he have to warm the bench while McGregor disrespects the shirt he's wearing. besides, people like McGregor and Lafferty seldom leave behind the hole they think they will.

Alexander has certainly filled in well in the past so I see no reason that he would not do it again. The idea of not punishing anyone because you may hurt their feelings is a very strange line of thought in my eyes.

FC Twente banned their play-maker and possibly most important player for 2 or 3 months(can't remember exactly) during their season, when they were top of the league between November to the end of January. He was in a car crash and done for drunk driving.

hahaha think falling over and getting right back up is it bit different to crashing a car because you were drunk :fish:

It was just the fact that they could have taken no action as the police had taken action, and it was not really a football issue. They were also really punishing him twice. It could have killed of their title hopes but still they decided that a punishment was more important than turning a blind eye even if the cost was going to be high.
