The truth about Thomson is this:

I doubt any true Rangers fan wishes any ill on him, indeed if given the choice we'd opt for him to flourish in England as opposed to rotting away on the treatment table. The problem is that as a player for us, he spent about half his time ON the treatment table and in only about 30% of his performances did he really have any sort of impact.

He was a functional, occasionally impressive player whose exceptional displays I can count on one hand (Celtic at Ibrox last season and Dundee Utd at Ibrox in the 3-3 the season before I think it was, stand out in particular) and whose average to decent displays made up the majority of his time here.

The rest he was either a lumbering hatchet man whose timing was awful, or he was completely anonymous.

Back to my original point, and a choice - well we're not given that choice, and personally due to his rather fragmented time at Ibrox I'm not overly bothered about his fate in England so I choose neither him flourishing nor being injured - I am apathetic. A player has to have had a real impact, usually a good one, for me to truly want to take an interest once they leave us.

Blow for Scotland also. He will probably miss the first 2 qualifiers and we needed our strongest midfield available.

Not sure he's part of the strongest Scotland midfield. I honestly consider him a bit over rated.
