pete 2,511
WALTER SMITH has confirmed that Andy Webster will miss the opening game of the season because of a frustrating hamstring strain. However, he has revealed that Lee McCulloch is completely recovered after a stay in hospital earlier this week. Webster suffered the strain on the tour of Australia but Smith believes the man who captained Dundee United last season will be fit for Hibs on August 22. He said: "Webster has a hamstring injury but he should be fit I would hope for next weekend. It's a little bit disappointing for him because he had played a couple of games for us in Australia." McCulloch misses the first two SPL matches through suspension but caused a scare earlier this week when he suffered chest pains. He was admitted to Wishaw hospital and kept in but has been released and there are no problems. Smith added: "It was as a result of the long haul flight back from Australia and it was done as a precaution, but he is absolutely fine. "He misses the first two matches for us in any case." Even although Kenny Miller did not play for Scotland last night he will be fit to lead the line for Rangers against Kilmarnock on Saturday. Smith added: "Kenny Miller didn't play but he was certainly fit to play. His shin splints have been bothering him but he should be OK. "We feared at one time that it would reach the chronic stage but we are assured that this will not be the case. "So in the short term he has to put up with a bit of discomfort." Here we go again. Will this guy ever play for us.

Tannochsidebear 2,481
Still got decent cover at Centre Half for now, with Weir, Bougherra, Broadfoot all fit so Webster neednt be rushed. He does seem jinxed with regards to his Rangers career, but hopefully this will be the last and he can go on to be a big player this season. I'm still intrigued as to who Walter will play when all are fit. Will he go with Weir and Webster, with Boughy at RB, or will he go with 3 at the back with Whitty and Papac playing further forward.
