It's not about comparing players from different eras but about the fundamentally difference between the patch and mend policy of signing someone else's thirtysomerhings and a willingness to develop organically as Struth generally did. It would still be fantastic to have them but i doubt if many of today's players would abide by them. Road workers don't use spades anymore they use mechanical diggers.
