Pre-season games are all about match fitness, the results are irrelevent,IMO, although it's always nice to win.Why do so many fans look too much into these games??, they bare no relevance to the coming season!!!. We have won the title for the last two seasons and going into the new season as CHAMPIONS again looking to make it 3 in a row.

exactly Ian, chelsea have lost 4 on the bounce but I still think they will be challenging for the EPL title.........

Surely winning in pre-season gives the players confidence and they could/should take their good form into pre-season? I'd take our pre-season form and results over Celtics.

I see what you are saying and agree its about preparing for the season. But Its confusing why we play a certain way of attacking football even against good teams in pre-season (Man City and emirates cup last year, Sydney Cup and Newcastle this year) then when the season starts we dont carry it over and a different system comes in to play.

I wonder if we played pre-season games against SPL teams we would see good flowing football with the ball being played on the deck??

I've alrerady said winning is better than losing!!, losing pre-season games doesn't mean you are going to lose the league title, just the same as winning them doesn't mean you are going to win your league:)

If we revert to type by winning the league again I'll be happy.

I like us playing "nice" football, but the result is always more important - even friendlies. To me it's what supporting a team is all about. I didn't get to see the friendlies against Blackburn and Newcastle, but both results made me feel pretty good and optimistic. If I don't get those good feelings when something goes right then what's the point of caring?

I also think you have to play different football against different teams with different approaches. There are quite a few good flair players who have played for the OF but struggled to break down a 10 man defence who sit inside their own box. A winger can't beat a man if they don't come out. Beating 5 men inside a small area is pretty difficult.

That's what happens in the SPL week after week - maybe a slight exaggeration but the principle is there. Usually when we pla well, it's when a team gets cocky and comes out and tries to attack us - like Dundee Utd; that allows us to play and we punish them. Then the next week, our opponents will have seen what happened and revert to type, but even more so. They'll probably still lose but will be spared humiliation and now and again they may get a draw or sneak a win.

Of course teams who take it to us when we're off form can also get a good result, especially when it all comes together for them and the rub of the green goes their way.

English teams take the game to us which means we've more time on the ball and have space behind them to exploit - of course we play better football in that circumstance when there is nothing for us to lose.

European games are completely different as there is more fear of losing by both sides and so caginess creeps in and you get a more skilful side doing a bit of what the SPL do. We do best when we employ those tactics ourselves and force the frustrated foreign teams to come forward.
