Newcastle Friendly

Recommended Posts

Watching the game today made me think again about Naismith and Lafferty. I know many fans really expect Lafferty to come good but I think this is mostly based upon other factors such as not wanting us to have wasted such a large fee, his nationality (for some) and also the love of an underdog or someone playing against the odds (e.g. the OTT support Sebo received).

I actually think, if he can avoid injury, Naismith has more to offer Rangers. Am I alone in that?

Naismith had a woeful season last year and showed absolutely no promise whatsoever so my mind won't be changed by a goal in a friendly. He is certainly better on the right than on the left though

I've always liked Naismith but it's got harder and harder to be a fan. He's an intelligent player, and he scored goals at Killie. Don't think he's a midfielder or winger though and we've not had a second-striker-off-a-main-striker setup for years. Ultimately this is his make or break year.

Wylde did indeed look very promising. I think that he could save us a bunch of money in transfer fees. Direct, looks to get in behind, pacey, confident. All the things you would want in a winger - would obviously need to see it over an extended period though.

I thought we looked very assured at the back too - even though Newcastle had some chances they came mostly from set pieces. Our counter-attacking play was pretty good as well.

My mind wasn't change by a pre-season friendly, nor was I suggesting anyone's should be. I just fail to see more from Lafferty then Naismith in terms of potential.

Was Naismith not part of the team when we were playing well in December?
