Portsmouth striker John Utaka has confirmed he would be interested in playing for SPL champions Rangers. The 28-year-old Nigeria international is expected to leave Fratton Park this summer following the club's relegation to the Championship. Utaka says he has options available but refused to state whether Gers had made their move for his services. Walter Smith's side are playing UEFA Champions League football this season and Utaka is eager to play in Europe's premier club competition. "I have a couple of offers now and I would love to play for Rangers in the Scottish League because it will give me the opportunity to showcase my talent in the Champions League," he told the Nigerian Tribune. "It will give me the opportunity to show my detractors that I am not finished yet. "Rangers is a good team that has won the title for the third time now, and I would love to associate myself with them." Stefanovitch 0
Read this over on FF. The concensus is his wage would be prohibitive.

Gazza_8 233
He's lightning fast and hasn't had the best of scoring records for Pompey but he's scored goals and plenty of them at his previous clubs.
andy steel 0
I just don't think he's the type of player we can accomodate anymore.

Stefanovitch 0
Utaka can play wide left and has the pace to do well in that position - perhaps a loan deal would be more financially realistic but I reckon Pompey would rather get him off the wage bill completely.
ian1964 10,777
The Portsmouth striker John Utaka says that he is attracting interest from Bolton, Sunderland and Fulham as well as the Bundesliga as his departure from the south coast club draws closer. Utaka, 28, moved to Fratton Park three years ago for a Ã?£7million fee from French side Rennes, and financially stricken Pompey will be hoping to recoup some of that fee with the sale of the Nigerian international. Utaka moved to the Premier League with a high reputation, however, his goal scoring record is far from convincing; the striker has scored just seven Premier League goals in his three years at the club. Despite his lack of goals, the reported interest from the Premier League clubs has come as a welcome step for Utaka who also claims to have received offers from the Bundersliga. “My manager is looking into the offers before him,” Utaka said. “We have had Sunderland, Fulham and Bolton and some clubs in Germany, Everything is in the air. “I would like to stay in the Premier League. It is quick, aggressive and direct and there are loads of goals every week. And, yes, the money in England is also good.” http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/07/27/2043583/portsmouths-john-utaka-keen-to-stay-in-the-premier-league
