rbr 1,270
May as well get the "Smith is to blame for everything" pre-emptive strike in huh ? Fuck me, not a ball has been kicked and he is already dragging the team down thanks to his tactics. Regardless of how much money he has "spent" is he really the one responsible for us having a squad of about 14 players ? Smith will never be able to do right in the eyes of some - when will some realise that we may not even be a viable, solvent entity right now but for "Smiths tactics" leading us to 2 in a row ? The time for criticism is when we are languishing behind Celtic ala PLG's era, not whilst sitting on a 2 in a row in the most troubled financial times of our history, with a few other trophies thrown in along with a UEFA Cup final. Whether you like his tactics or not, they are successful in domestic football, and that is our breead and butter. I used to be Smith's biggest critic , not so much for his domestic tactics but definetly in Europe , however I have to agree entirely with your post . What Walter has done especially in the last two years is incredible and I for one will never forget it. We can totally forget Europe as we will not be able to compete but at least I can accept that now .

Unirea managed to compete well enough on a fraction of smith budget. smith is out of his depth in europe.

We can only imaine what was going on behind the scenes at that time , I am not for one moment trying to justify that performance , but the league was and is the biggest target and will be for years to come until our future is sorted and Murray departs . The C/L is just a money excersise and I will be very interested at what price the put the tickets at , given the mess they made of it last year .

Yet Celtic DIDNT manage to compete on a far superior budget (when you factor in management compensation, player purchases etc)... Seemed Smith wasnt out of his depth domestically. Which is more important to us ? As has been said, the CL is a bonus and anyone who thinks otherwise is being naive. Winning the SPL is easily the most important thing for us.

Both extremely important in my eyes and in the future we are going to have to win a few CL games before we are in the money rounds Viscous circle really. Win the league to enter CL to earn money to win the league.
wabashcannonball 0
.How many Scottish managers have taken a Scottish team to a European final? Is that despite the lack of tactics or because of tactical accumen, Frank Bruno was WBC champion he returned to his profession of pantomime dame. :box:

Gisabeer was saying that WS tactics mean we are shocking in Europe and that Unirea competed with a lower budget. His emphasis was on us being poor in Europe - which none of us can deny. However, the SPL is far more important to win that us actually competing in the CL group stages. At least in my opinion. We need to see the CL for what it is - it is a bonus to us if we get into the group stages - because it will provide much needed finance, but we are unlikely to win it in our lifetimes, unless we live for a LONG time and/or we get some sugar daddy, who doesnt seem to be forthcoming. Winning the SPL gives you the CHANCE to get into the CL (and a better chance of getting into the group stages than the SPL runners-up....) so winning the SPL is more important that doing well in the CL. Again, at least in my opinion.
