Just catching up on Rangers news after returning from 2 weeks sunning myself in Normandy; and what a thoroughly depressing read it has been.

Despite my earlier predictions that he might stay, we have lost our top scorer to a Championship club run by Strapon. To make things worse, it now looks like one of our first choice midfielders (the only area of the pitch where we have any kind of strength in depth) is moving on for the same money we paid - even though he is now an international player with Champions League experience.... :(

On top of that, there is still no resolution to Bougherra's or Wilson's situations, so there could be further bad news to come.

Way to have the summer optimism kicked out of you... :(

I hope you are right Frankie. I guess the only silver lining could be that we will see more youngsters blooded and given a run in the team. It has been a long time coming, but it will likely lead to an inconsistency of performance if we cannot retain a solid core. It is for that reason that Boyd's goals and Thommo's grit, would have been essential for the season ahead.

Yep, the only solace we can take is that because our squad is so lightweight, the young lads on the fringes are likely to get their chance.

Will that be enough when it obviously affects our competitiveness? I'm not so sure... :(

Have to admit to being a bit depressed about losing Boyd on a free to Boro, but I'm not fussed about the £2m Thomson deal, especially if it gives us a little more cash for wingers/wide players. Thomson was a cracking player when he was on form, but nothing we can't replace. On top of the remaining central midfielders we've also got younger players to step into the 1st team like Ness, McMillan & Shinnie. These young guys have to get a run of games at some point or else they're not worth having on the books.

I had a fleeting bout of optimism there. But then I remembered we still have no new owner and the bank still have too much of a say over our financial matters.

I am never going on holiday again.

I'm really pleased that some of the younger lads might get more chances tbh Frankie. It's the only way forward for us as a club and we should definitely have enough talent waiting there for it not to affect our competitiveness if they're brought through carefully. I'm not saying I don't want to see any new signings, but they have to be the right signings because spending money on players who end up sitting on the bench most of the season would be bad business at this point in time.

And that's only looking at things from a domestic perspective. We can kiss goodbye to making any kind of impact on the Champions League.

Jesus, pass me the Valium...

Even with Boyd and Thomson we'd struggle much like last season in the Champions League.
