McMILLAN agrees terms that keep him at Ibrox until 2012

RANGERS have secured versatile youngster Jordan McMillan on a new two-year deal ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old defender, who can also operate in midfield, has been handed an extended stay with the SPL champions after impressing on loan at Queen of the South last season.

McMillan made 16 starts for the Doonhamers after making his Light Blues debut in the 3-1 League Cup win at Dundee last October.

And having taken note of how he has progressed in the last few months, Gers manager Walter Smith has moved to retain the utility man until the summer of 2012.

That gives the Ibrox boss an extra body for his squad ahead of the forthcoming campaign, when winning a third consecutive title will be the aim.

Smith said: "Jordan has reached the stage now where he is ready to push on after going out on loan to Queen of the South in the second half of last season.

"He showed up very well in his time in Dumfries and he is ready to come in and support the first team if necessary."

Every position he can play in, we have at least 3 players ahead of him in the pecking order

His new contract represents panic imo

How can you possibly read something as specific as panic into this?

He's 21 years old, has started 1 game for us iirc, and is no higher than 4th choice in any position

It's a 'boosting squad numbers' exercise

have you ever seen the guy play?

some players do develop later on and whenever i've seen him he looked ok, as frankie says a decent squad player. i'd rather it was one of our youngsters than paying for a back up player........

Must be honest, i've never seen the kid play, no

But when Wilson and Fleck can break into the team at 17, i'd be very doubtful that a 21 year old with 1 appearance will become any kind of first team regular. Who is he going to replace inside the next 2 years?
