I agree with the sentiments re commentators and pundits, but living in England, my experience of most England fans is not much different... There's many I like as people, but they annoy me as England fans.

Calscot, looks like you've just selected the facts that let you justify your hatred, rather than the other way round. Racist.

 

I've just listed the cons, I tried listing the pros but couldn't come up with anything... Counting up misdemeanours (and a few felonies) and passing sentence is not hatred or prejudiced - it's part of any fair justice system...

Seriously though, the media are insane. But I feel that exact same mad vanity when facing SPL clubs and teams I think we should be beating. The commentators are just exaggerations of this, and it's no reason to support anyone that's playing England unless it's Scotland.

As I mentioned on the WC thread, I thought it was out of order last night when Harry Redknapp was putting down the Serbs saying they were poor and deserved to go home. This is a Serb side that managed to beat the Germans, while England's high flyers struggled to beat lesser teams than the Serbs. I hope the Germans pump the bastards right out in the next round. Maybe then we'll get some balanced, unbiased commentary for the rest of the tournament.

You've ruined your argument - those three are usually biased against Scotland and talk us down all the way through the game...

It's not just the commentators -it's the parochialism of the British state. In 1967 a Ce***c team containing eleven Glaswegians and no plastic paddies became the first British team to win the European Cup. It was a magnificent acheievement for British and Scottish football but the English believed that honour was reserved for Man Utd and awarded a knighthood to Matt Busby one year later. Alex Ferguson got his knighthood when he won it, but none of these achievements rank any where near that of Jock Stein, with virtually no money to build a team. I loved it when Scotland won at Wembley the same year.

 

When Scotland has been in the WC and no England, I don't recall the UK Prime Minister hanging a St Andrews Cross from Downing Steeet either.

 

And by the way I'm not a nationalist - I wish to see Scotland as an equal partner in the UK state. I hate this phoney devolved state. Either real independence or the Union Jack full stop.

 

When you live in England you just become more aware of this; how many times have you heard the words 'england' and' Britain' used synonymously? A Scotsman is genetically incapable of making this mistake.
