Gribz 970
DUTD want £3m for Goodwillie?, BHEAST want £12m for a wee crot sand dancer?. Me thinks Bougherra is worth more than these two TBH I think this is good SPL clubs raising the price tags. For too long players have been bought for less than the European market value because they play in a certain league. I think clubs should stand there ground on this as its making the SPL go backwards. Players have a contract...if the buying club doesnt pay the asking fee then let the player rot in the U12s for 3 years then see what he does after that. McAvennie's love child isnt worth 12 million, but he is certain a player in the 4-6 million bracket considering others down south.

Asking for an unreasonable fee will also be the death knell of Scottish football too though. If they stick a 3 mill price tag on Goodwillie when he is worth, say, 1 mill - clubs arent stupid (unless Souness is in charge of transfer fees....) and will not pay it. Player sill then play their contracts out and walk for free - losing the SPL club a million or two in the process. Scottish football is in dire straits as it is and couldnt afford to see these players walk out of contract for nothing.

Get the clubs back in control of the players rather than the agents and players being in control of wages and contracts. Managers can still get sacked, I dont see why players cant. I wonder how long it will be before managers contracts become like players.

They can simply refuse to give players what they are looking for - however, for this to work, ALL clubs would need to take a stance with both current and potential new players too.
Guest warrior1690
lets not get too carried away with bougherra,s performance yesterday, he was up against a very mediocre england side and although he played well it doesn't warrant a £8 mill tag.having said that anything above £4 million we should snatch their hand off.
Guest Flying Hippo
If we weren't already, Rangers would be totally finished as a big club if we sold Bougherra to Arsenal for £4 million

It doesnt matter whether that England team is mediocre - what remains is that the English believe they have the best players in the world, in the best league in the world... and Bougherra played their own "saviour" out of the game. Doesnt matter that Rooney was gash - Bougherra snuffed him out - and how many CB's in the EPL can say that ? Perception is what creates transfer fees, not reality.

Sorry Warrrior but i totally disagree with you and in fact agree with Ian. I would rather let his contract run out for 4mill. If we could get 8mill for Boomsong then Bougie is worth at least 8.5 million. Cuellor was certainly a better defender but Bougie offers so much more in coming forward so i reckon that is the price class we should be looking at. Don't forget the 8 million was written in Cuellors contract otherwise we may have got more.
