Same old, same old; announce some good news (Walter staying) to soften the blow of the bad news (players leaving, no word on replacements, squad definately will be smaller) I'm still convinced that we'll sign no one, although Portsmouth's 36 year old, relegated with 5 different clubs, recovering from cruciate ligament damage, defender Hermann Hreidarsson claims that we tried to sign him before he re-signed for Pompey. The fact of the matter is that everyone knew there was a decent chance we'd be losing the out of contract players, so it's not really coming as a massive shock as they leave one by one. Surely you're not complaining about the news regarding Smith staying coming before the news about Boyd given that you've been adamant that Boyd would be offski anyway?? IMO, the timing with this latest announcement regarding Boyd coming shortly after Smith etc signing deals makes perfect sense. Boyd was on holiday and they wouldn't have had much chance to speak to him, so I'd imagine speaking to him would have been one of their top entries on the 'to do' list being made after they signed new deals. Boyd's departure doesn't really concern me, though of course many won't agree with that. However, that doesn't mean that we're fine without all these players. We have no squad depth at all. We now have the likes of Lafferty, Webster and Naismith virtually secure in their regular starting berths despite none of them proving themselves as good enough for the club Lucky the 3 under 21s rule exists as we wouldn't be able to name 7 substitutes otherwise!
