Ellis prepared to step asideProperty developer still interested in takeover Andrew Ellis has insisted that he would not compete with a rival bidder who was better placed to take Rangers forward. London-based property developer Ellis remains keen on a possible £33million buyout at Ibrox after expressing an interest some time ago. But Ellis, who revealed on Saturday that other people are involved in his takeover bid, only wants what is best for the club. There are no known bidders apart from Ellis for Sir David Murray's majority stake, but he claims he would be prepared to step aside if somebody does emerge. "If there are other people who want to take over Rangers then I won't stand in their way," he told Scotland on Sunday. "The most important thing is what is best for Rangers. "If I feel that somebody else has more to offer then I'll act on that. This is not about individuals, it's about the future of a great football club." Ellis' delay in making a formal offer has attracted criticism, most notably from club chairman Alastair Johnston. But Ellis will not be rushed, saying: "There's been all sorts of quotes and mischief in the public domain and I really don't want to make any comment until the time is right. "I'm either going to say, 'Yes, we're doing something' or, 'No, we're not'. It's still early days. All I can say is that we're working hard on what we're trying to do. "If it works, great. If it doesn't, that's life. But I don't want to be pulled into any more spats that have been going on. "I'm not putting any timescale on it, because it's not fair. "Different dates have been quoted and when they don't get met, people get upset, so I'm saying nothing, I'm keeping very much in the background working on what we need to do. "If it comes in then fantastic. Wait and see." Johnston had also criticised Ellis for a lack of contact between the pair, and the latter confirmed they had still not spoken. Asked why a sensible man would want to involve himself in a club that is already heavily in debt, has seen its tax affairs investigated by HM Revenue and Customs, and whose officials and fans have questioned his motives, Ellis replied: "I'm sensible? "Where did you get that one from? When there is something to report, it will be reported." Edited May 23, 2010 by Zappa
maineflyer 0
It's never nice to see someone working their ticket before they've even arrived. What a crock from start to finish.

Jim1955 12
Somebody talked about a shambles in another post. I now feel that a shambles is something to be wished for, this is way below that. We are looking at a complete and utter muddle x tangle x chaos x jumble. Somebody somewhere is playing with us and it's time it stopped.
Gribz 972
That is the most black and white statement regarding any takeover yet, not to mention its patronising. - He is practically saying Im stepping aside. The longer it drags the more doubt it creates. Surely he originally was waiting to see if we have automatically entry to the Champions League - we got that so his Plan A should have been in place weeks ago. I seriously doubt if he was ever up to the task. Slightly more plausible than the RST's pretender from Florida .... but only slightly.
bmck 117
Trying to look charitably, you could say that he's just trying to re-enforce he's in it for the good of the club. But, to be honest, my reaction is the same as everyone else's.
Guest Northampton_loyalist
I think it is a continuation of the stuff with AJ last week. Ellis is gently reminding him that he said the club needs a new owner and that if anyone else wants to buy it let them go for it, if not, give him peace to work out his deal. Eiher way, whether Ellis is a chancer or the real thing, we should at least know over the coming week at a guess, next week at the outside. Then we can either get on with things under a new man or get on with things under the same old same old.
