Johnston takeover interview

Recommended Posts

Make up your own minds all rather vague to me, except for Murray as suspected making the decision.

Only vague in the sense he can't say anything tangible due to stock market rules. Everything else more or less confirms what we already know or strongly suspected.

It's vague because no-one knows Ellis' plans yet as he's yet to decide whether the club is a viable option...

Two things stood out for me though:

1. "Because what we don’t want is any Glazers/Manchester United situation at Ibrox." - People elsewhere are suggesting this would be Ellis' model so perhaps the whole point of this interview was to get this across to Ellis before any bid comes in.

2. Why did Johnston grant an interview to Spiers of all people? Just how out of touch are our 'club guardians'?

Baffled by that.

Smith supposedly had dinner with Spiers and Keevins a few weeks back in a West End eaterie as well.

What I find amusing if only slightly, is that he is at pains to stress Muir is removed from the process due to a conflict of interests, I take it this is the same Muir who works for Murray/MIH, the same Muir who will be receiving all information in his role as advisor to Murray and in effect advising MIH on which decisions and courses to take. In effect the Rangers board group is no more than a talking shop

ââ?¬Å?We cannot start or stop a deal, but we can strongly recommend,ââ?¬Â at the end of the day the guy removed from the process Muir, will have more power over the final decisions than the board, who in reality have none, if Murray takes his advices.

They do have the power to make conditions difficult for any new owner if they come out against the purchase, but yes, they don't have the power to stop it.

I still believe that this commitee also has a conflict of interest. Bain and McIntyre's jobs are in doubt. They therefore have a conflcit of interest as to looking at what is best for their own future against that of the club's. They would only be human if they also considered what was besrt for them personally, and therefore cannot give the same degree of independence as Johnston can give.

It would be interesting to know how much of a say MIH actually have on the sale. It is possible that MIH have "agreed" a business plan in a similar manner that Rangers have and the business plan could say that Rangers have to be sold if any offer in excess of, say, £30 million is received.

I think the theories have been kicked to death Bluedell, either we believe it is Murray's call or someone else's, personally I think it is Murray's and his alone unless he defaults on his obligations, whatever and whoever it is, we in all probability will not know until after the event, if any comes to pass.

The whole affair is looking like another master stroke by the Great Manipulator.
