EDU keen to put past behind him ahead of United cup clash

MO EDU insists he bears no grudge towards Darren Dods for putting him out of football for seven months last year.

The American midfielder could line up for Rangers against the Dundee United defender for the first time this weekend since he was crocked against the Arabs last May.

Edu suffered a serious knee injury after a wild challenge by Dods on the day the Light Blues won the SPL title at Tannadice.

He consequently spent most of the latter part of 2009 recovering and only played again for the first time since the problem emerged at the end of December against Hibernian.

As such, he missed the USA's run to the Confederations Cup final and now faces a race against time to convince national coach Bob Bradley he's worthy of a World Cup place.

Dods was also involved in Kenny Miller's sending off the last time Gers met the Taysiders and he could face a hot reception at Sunday's Scottish Cup tie as a result.

It is disappointing to hear the experienced stopper, formerly of the Hibees and Inverness, hasn't been in touch with Edu to apologise for what happened nearly 10 months ago.

Even so, the ex-Toronto utility man is keen to let bygones be bygones and focus on the future rather than the past.

His focus is simply on beating United in the last eight and ensuring Rangers' bid for a domestic Treble continues to gather pace.

Edu said: "There are mixed emotions about that afternoon last year. It was a good and a bad day for me because we won the league and I got injured but it's behind me now.

"This is a new season, a new game and I'm not looking back because it has been a hard slog to get myself fit again.

"I'll put what happened against United last time to the back of my mind and when the game kicks off against them this weekend, I won't be thinking about it.

"I've not heard anything from their player and I don't think he spoke to anyone about the tackle he made.

"But there's no point in bearing grudges and I'm just keen to move on instead. If I sit here moping about it, it will just weigh on my mind.

"In turn, that might affect how I play and as it is I'm just looking to put it behind me, get into the team, put in a shift and hopefully help us into the semi-finals.

"Challenges are part of the game and I accept that. Nobody wants to be injured and I'm sure there was no intention to hurt me all those months ago.

"I won't be shying away from tackles or anything because I might be coming up against the team I got injured against before.

"It'll be no different to any other game for me. I'll just get out there, look to play my game and hopefully get the right result."

I still remember that 'tackle' from Dods and Edu is more magnanimous than I could ever be after such an obvious assault.

Strange how Dods have never been vilified for this yet after one of our players loses his balance after being head-butted in the chest by a Celtic player, he was to blame.
