Gers confirm McGregor "incident"

I see what you're saying, but at the same time, what's wrong with voicing an opinion? I'm of the opinion that our players probably shouldn't be going to these types of places without a minder/bodyguard, but that's just my opinion. They get paid enough money to employ at least one man, but the key point in this particular facet of the discussion is that they obviously don't want that. It's not the money, it's about them feeling they have some sort of freedom, which they don't have.

What bmck's getting at is the press shouldn't be of the beast that it is. You both make very valid points, some of which I strongly agree with, but the bottom line is the press IS the way it is, whether we like it or not, and complaining about it isn't going to achieve a thing.

The beauty of this country is the right to free speech, the right to complain, the right to object to the perceived objectionables.

The flaw is objecting rarely makes a difference.

I don't disagree with much that you say there, but what you're ranting against isn't people who consume the press, but the nature of the press to lure in people to consume the drivel.

And it's a bitch isn't it?

The modern press is vile, but it is also inescapable.

STV News: Allan McGregor in nightclub incident - cue Raman Bardwaj telling us about it.

You buy your paper, same story on the back page. You log onto Gersnet, BBC, Sky Sports - it is plastered over all of them.

What is one to do? Black themselves out of the entire modern media so McGregor can do what he likes in the privacy of his own skin?

Idealistic, yes. Utopian. A wee touch. Impossible - totally.

It's the way of the press that everything and anything is reported, and if you complain about it, as valid as your view might be, it's like complaining about the bad weather.

A most interesting thread. This is the only bit I disagree strongly with:

Impossible - totally.

Not at all! Don't buy the papers - they are overpriced to the point where I don't buy them on economic grounds as much as moral ones, but the point remains it's easy to avoid what they are saying; I haven't seen Scottish news since my son got into The Simpsons, which must be since Manchester, and the 'off' button is always within easy reach; while I need not 'click' on any thread I don't wish to. In the pub or wherever, you can always NOT take part in a discussion should it come up. It seems to me that the only thing stopping people passing comment on or viewing the lives of others is their own prurience.

Whether he would be better keeping a low profile isn't the issue.

He's been attacked and is still the accused rather than the victim.

Unbelievable.

Given no one will give official comment, we don't know for sure he was attacked, just that an incident led him to sustaining an injury.

I'd be very surprised if he starts on Sunday.

I think it is part of the issue, how stupid is he? He's 28 and still seems to be his own worst enemy. How on earth is that saying he's the accused? Maybe I'm accusing him of being naive, but that's about the size of it.

No-one knows what happened, I'm guessing its either related to something in his personal life, the fact he plays for Rangers or it was just one of those things that can happen to anyone while on a night out, or a combination of these.

Mike.

a strathclyde police spokeswoman said: ââ?¬Å?we have received a complaint from a man in relation to being assaulted on bath street, glasgow, on the evening of saturday february 20.

ââ?¬Å?inquiries are ongoing.ââ?¬Â

The reporting of the incident compared to that of Lennon's is quite incredible.

lennon's was instantly a sectarian assault, whereas McGreogor's is an alleged assault, with no mention of the possibility of it being sectarian.

Commentators are falling over themselves to suggest that McGregor leaves Rangers, including our "own" "Uncle Tom" Johnstone.

So one of them gets assaulted it's sectarian and one of us gets assualted it's their own fault.

It highlights the press for what they really are.
