Gers confirm McGregor "incident"

Recommended Posts

A PAL of Rangers ace Allan McGregor told how the goalie was headbutted in the EYE in a fierce attack - saying: "It was vicious. His face is a mess."

The Ibrox No1 was rushed to hospital after being ambushed in the street on a night out with soccer pals.

At least two men pounced on the goalie after he left top footballers' haunt Karbon nightclub in the early hours of yesterday.

He suffered injuries to his head and eye and back.

It was at first feared he'd been SLASHED as there was so much blood.

The pal said: "He was headbutted in the eye. It was a really vicious attack. His face is a mess. It is very swollen and bruised.

"His eye is completely closed."

Friends of McGregor, 28, are said to have found him lying battered in a city centre lane after he was beaten.

A source said "It seems there was a lot of blood.

"People were panicking and there was worry he might have been attacked with a blade. It turned out he picked up deep scratches on his back."

Goalie McGregor underwent two rounds of X-rays over fears his eye socket was damaged.

But he was recovering at home last night after medics at Glasgow's southern General gave him the all-clear.

Speaking from his plush pad in the city, fianc©e Leah Shevlin, 26, said: "We're back home. Allan's not doing too well but we don't really want to talk about it."

It's thought McGregor was in Karbon on Saturday night to celebrate the 21st birthday of Celtic starlet Cillian Sheridan, who is currently on loan at St Johnstone.

It is unclear what sparked the violence, minutes after the stopper left. Blonde Leah was dining with friends nearby.

Last night McGregor's dad Alex, 45, called for Rangers manager Walter Smith to BAN him from going out.

Alex said: "He doesn't have the common sense to stop going himself."

Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS confirmed McGregor was treated in hospital.

Rangers said they were aware of an incident.

Strathclyde Police were not involved.

McGregor is still facing a probe and was interviewed by cops after a young mum alleged she was raped at a party last November.

The goalie denies the claims.

Can't see how McG can be blamed in any way for this. He was at a party for a player from the dark side; you might think that was unwise, but it's always been known that players from both sides socialise.

Sadly, I think it's time for him to move away from Glasgow and the infamous 'goldfish bowl.' Why doesn't this happen in Manchester or Newcastle or Liverpool - they're not too big to be goldfish bowls.

Unless there are cities in Britain without bars and clubs, i doubt a change of club is necessary

So you're saying this sort of thing goes on elsewhere as well? And it's just our scummy media who choose to highlight it? That may be a the case but I think we - and Mac - don't need all this baggage. In another town he would be more anonymous. Remember a similar thing happening to Robert Fleck.

I just think that it's becoming too much of a distraction - WS must be tearing his hair out. MCG can bring in some cash and maybe avoid getting seriously hurt. Sad but true.:(

At the end of the day it should only be reported as an incident until all the facts are known,on the radio they are saying he was involved in a '' brawl '',you can be sure if it was a MOPE player it would be reported as a sectarian attack, fact.

Yes, the paranoia has got to me - that was what I was thinking too! That's just how it is up here, and with the exception of the state-funded BBC there's not a thing to be done about it.

AlexScott is bang on imo, Allan should give up on Scotland and get moving. Not as if he's the first player who finds lifestyle incompatible with living in Glasgow. Now, that is as much his fault as anyone else's, but in the words of Roger Waters: come on, it's time to go.
