John Barr 0
I wonder just how many Gers fans remember anything about this guy from the 1998 season? I think if we had've kept him he'd have gone on to make the Italian squad too. Anyone any thoughts or memories of him?

26th of foot 6,179
I seem to remember he remained at the club for a couple of seasons, playing regularly in both youth and reserve teams.

John Barr 0
Can't remember a thing. Was he brought over with Rino? Yes. If you remember Smith brought two youngsters from Perugia over for a trial. They were Rino Gattuso and Luigi Riccio. Amazingly Gattuso played 40 league appearances for Gers and scored seven goals in the 1997-98 season and left after that to go to Salernitana.(Whoever made the call for him to leave should be shot) Young Riccio was 19 when he came over and stayed for 2 seasons from 1997-99 playing just one game, against Motherwell in May 1999. Shortly after that he left to join Bevern in Belgium where he made 5 appearances in two seasons. He then joined Italian minnows Pistoiese and made 14 appearances scoring once in 2000-01 season. After that he played with Ternana and then Ancona making 30 appearances in total. But it was with Piacenza he was finally succesfull with. In 7 years he made 240 appearances and scored 16 times. He was the Captain of the team for a while and they drifted from Serie B to Serie A for a few seasons. Aged 32 now, he plays for Serie B side Sassuolo. I think the boy was home sick and therefore his abilities were never fully put to the test in Scotland. It's a name no one hardly ever remembers but and interesting topic nonetheless!
