Whittaker: The Agony and The Agony

There's no denying he has ability but, when he does play again he should be tried at right-mid.

Im really surprised he hasn't to be honest, given Walters fondness for playing players out of position and the fact he cannot defend to save his life, it seems like a natural progression.

It was discussed on here at the time that he was likely signed as a right mid as Hutton was doing so well at right back and we also had Broadfoot. He started off there but was a bit disappointing and has been used as a utility player since playing at right back, left back and left midfield with mixed success and form.

Walter has had great success with most of the defenders at the club with Whittaker being the only real failure unless you count Stevie Smith who hasn't been the same since his injury, so I don't think the coaching is to blame.

I think Whittaker is one of those enigmas who can look potentially a class player one minute and a dud the next. It seems more to do with attitude rather than talent as he seems to have plenty of the latter.
